2003? I bet they also didn't think it was addictive then either, something they've since changed their tune on. :P

Medicinal use and recreational use are entirely different, but yeah, recreational use affects the brain, especially in younger people. These studies are fairly new and somewhat inconsistent because of that, but the effects on the brain are sometimes similar to those of other drugs, especially with long-term use. I could find dozens of sources suggesting the same thing, but I JUST did that last week for a homework assignment. But anyone could find some with a quick search. They'll be a lot more recent, though. :-)

Marijuana also affects brain development, and when it is used heavily by young people, its effects on thinking and memory may last a long time or even be permanent. A recent study of marijuana users who began using in adolescence revealed substantially reduced connectivity among brain areas responsible for learning and memory. And a large long-term study in New Zealand showed that people who began smoking marijuana heavily in their teens lost an average of 8 points in IQ between age 13 and age 38. Importantly, the lost cognitive abilities were not fully restored in those who quit smoking marijuana as adults. Those who started smoking marijuana in adulthood did not show significant IQ declines.

This was the first source of my search, but literally dozens will suggest the same thing. The effects on the brain are real. Real, I tell ya! :D

Hey now ... I never once said it didn't have any impact on the brain (especially developing brains of children). I said it "doesn't kill brain cells". ;)

More stories coming out about Hill...

Trashed the rental house where he "and his friends" were living ... to the tune of $15,000. Holes in the walls, filthy bathrooms, feces from his four pit bulls. Home owner has tried to get him to pay up, but with no luck.

And despite earning $370k, he was arrested last year for owing more than $9000 in back child support.

Even with all of that, if he stays clean for a little while, someone in the NFL will eventually pick him up. We all know that's how it works. But yeah, let's hope the Vikings never show interest.

So, you don't want the Vikings to show interest now?

And why does this "trashing" stuff sound familiar? Did some other athlete do something similar in the last year or so? It just sounds oddly familiar to me.

But, hopefully all of this makes him get his freakin' crap together. He definitely has the talent. I think when the news first came out, I read that he was PFF's #2 overall safety (or something like that), so he must have the talent. Too bad he doesn't have the maturity!

Sounds like this guy is bad news. Not only is he a pothead but he's irresponsible. If he can't even take care of his living quarters, how can we expect him to be responsible on the field. Doesn't take care of his kids or pay child support. This is not a guy I would want representing my team. Character off-field is just as important as the on-field. This guy is no good.

Agreed.

If the guy is so bored in NYC that he has to constantly smoke pot to pass the time I can't see him lasting a week in Minnesota before falling back on old habits.

He was living in West Orange, New Jersey. Which was probably a big part of his problem, because it was where he grew up.

Ravens signed suspended S Will Hill, formerly of the Giants.

GM Ozzie Newsome may be getting a steal here. Hill, 24, was one of the better safeties in the league last season, racking up 77 tackles, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles as a ten-game starter. However, he was slapped with a six-game suspension for violating the substance-abuse policy. It's his third suspension since entering the league. Hill will be eligible to return in Week 7. He should then push Darian Stewart for the starting free safety job.
