Also, moving back 5 spots from 8 to 13 costs WAY more than a Sam Bradford fresh off an ACL injury, who may not even start if he were to come to the Vikings.

And how much more open competition do you want? Thats what we did last year and it was a mess...Ponder in for the first few weeks, then Cassel, then Ponder, then Freeman, then Cassel again. Is that how it should be?
In the NFL players restructure all the time...a very common practice. For Bradford, restructuring to facilitate a trade gives him some leverage, leverage to secure a sweeter deal than what a straight release and sign via open market would reward.

Last year that wasn't open competition it was a side show, run by ring leaders not by quality NFL coaches. It should go without saying that if traded for, Bradford in the mind of actual Vikes coaches, represents talent and potential. More than what is currently on roster.

Plus like many, I don't want Vikes to reach for QB in 1st. A Bradford trade would almost cement non QB in the 1st.

Players do restructure, but they do so to work out long term deals, not to facilitate a trade. As can be seen this year with DeSean Jackson and Chris Johnson, players dont restructure their deal to be traded to whoever the team wants. The open market is what gives players leverage. They get to decide where they want to go and take the highest price offered.

Can make the argument that Josh Freeman also represented "talent and potential" when they brought him in as well, yet it doesnt always work out.

I like Sam Bradford but I don't see this trade happening, it makes no sense to trade for a QB that is coming off of major surgery and has only completed 2 out of 4 seasons in the NFL.

Vikes should do the trade in a heart beat.

Step1...Rams restructure Bradford's deal
Step 2...trade happens on draft day, probably at #8 with Rams drafting their QB
Step 3...Vikes still have exact same draft as they would...draft D with #13 and QB of future on day 2
Unless it changed in the last CBA, I do not believe veteran players can be traded on draft day. Only picks

Please please please don't trade for bradford. Especially don't trade our #1 pick for him, or any picks at all. Draft a QB. Bradford had one decent year. A Very BAD gamble

Has he had any decent talent around him in St. Louis? Not much for receivers or RBs and haven't they had problems with their offensive line as well? He would definitely have better players around him on the Vikings. The thing is...are they confident that he could outperform Cassel in training camp? If not, then you don't trade for him.

If these rumors are true and it happens, I'm confident that Norv knows what he's doing.

His health issues are enough to scare me away.

I'd love to see us trade for Bradford, but as a big Sooners fan I'm probably biased...

haha, I know how that goes. My gf went to highschool with him at Putnam City High! I felt that way big time when AD was still on the board for our pick!

As much as I like Bradford, I'd be very careful with what I'd give up for him. Probably something like Ponder and a 3rd round pick and he'd have to restructure big time. All of that means it probably wouldn't happen.

He had Steven Jackson for 3? years. I would call that quality. WRs didn't he have Brandon Lloyd for a year or 2 (who with Kyle Orton had a great year)? or Danny Amendola? I'd say he has had a bit of talent around him. But i do agree that injuries scare me away from him. But since this isn't going to happen nothing to worry about.

Interesting.
Imho it's a good smokescreen built by the Rams (and the Vikings).

Rams with this rumors they changed the cards on the board.

Now the Rams can take anyone with 2nd, included Manziel (see rumors)
If a team want Manziel must trade up to first overall and Mack, Clowney and Watkins are aviable to their call.
If Houston want QB (Manziel?) mustn't trade down and are forced to call him before the Rams (Browns, Jaguars, Raiders)
In any case, with Clowney and Mack still available the Rams can trade down.

And Vikings with 13th overall can take Mosley, Barr, Gilbert.
Benefits for Vikings? Mmmh.
I'm thinking about, I don't think it is a stretch to race to the QB.
Perhaps Vikings want Mack to fall to 8th?

All of this is a good reminder of why you should never trade away subsequent year's picks. Washington could be sitting at #2 right now but instead it's the Rams. When you throw in a pick (especially a 1st or 2nd) and you don't know where that pick will eventually be, that's way too much risk IMO. Spielman has been good about keeping his trades to picks in the current year, hopefully he keeps with that.

Sam Bradford - QB - Rams

Vikings GM Rick Spielman denies that he and the Rams have discussed a trade revolving around Sam Bradford.

"I have not had any specific talks with the Rams," Spielman said at his pre-draft presser Tuesday. We wouldn't expect him to say anything else. The Rams had been publicly adamant that Bradford is their starter, but GM Les Snead appeared on NFL AM Tuesday morning and completely danced around a question from Michelle Beisner when she asked him to set the record straight on Bradford.

He denied it. So

IT MUST BE TRUE!!
