49ers would be crazy to trade Harbaugh unless it involved a decade's worth of first round picks. They were bad-to-average with Nolan, Singletary, etc...it's time to pay one of the best coaches in the league that's gotten your franchise DEEP into the playoffs all three years.

Seems odd how teams pay coaches/assistant coaches. Seems like they're severely undervalued. If you can get a proven OC or DC, even if it means paying them twice what the next guy would cost, why not? They don't count against the cap. Owners are all million/billionaires. Why not?

The NFL banned coach-for-draft-pick trades after the Gruden trade (
http://www.sptimes.com/2003/01/17/Bucs/ ... icks.shtml). I wonder if they've lifted the ban since?

I heard the ban was lifted shortly after it was put in place. Also speculation that Harbaugh's wife may have been a factor in the discussion (she didn't want to move) but the link provided (a SF blog site) was dead.

Who could blame her? I've been to Ohio many times and have been to San Fran a few times ... especially if you're rich, you want to be in San Fran lol

Jim Harbaugh - C - 49ers
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora passes along "increasing buzz" from the Combine that the 49ers may ultimately have to decide between keeping coach Jim Harbaugh and GM Trent Baalke.
La Canfora reports Harbaugh and Baalke are "barely speaking," with "almost all" of their communication going through email. Harbaugh's relationship with club president Paraag Marathe is also "strained." Harbaugh has two years left on his contract, and is one of the NFL's most underpaid coaches. He's entrenched as the 49ers' coach for 2014, but the franchise may revisit the idea of "trading" him next offseason. La Canfora writes that he's "long expected" Dolphins owner Stephen Ross to attempt to trade for Harbaugh. Ross aggressively targeted Harbaugh to replace Tony Sparano as head coach in January of 2011.

Jim Harbaugh - C - 49ers
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam confirmed at the Combine that his team did attempt to acquire Jim Harbaugh from the 49ers earlier this offseason.
The 49ers' front office has vehemently denied talks occurred, but Haslam didn't back down when pressed by USA Today's Jarrett Bell. "There was an opportunity there, and it didn't materialize," said Haslam. It's entirely unclear what sort of compensation San Francisco was seeking, but pretty clear at this point that the Niners may be headed for a divorce with Harbaugh, probably after next season. It's worth noting Dolphins owner Stephen Ross pursued Harbaugh aggressively when he was leaving Stanford. Current Fins GM Dennis Hickey and coach Joe Philbin are believed to be a lame-duck pairing entering 2014.

The 49ers need to cut bait with Baalke. It doesn't matter if Harbaugh is tough to deal with because it's obvious the players love him and play tough for him. They've lost 11 regular season games in three years. How are you not extending him now?

I like Baalke haha. My advisor (and kinesiology, biomechanics, and motor learning/human development professor) was teammates with him at Bemidji State and lived with him. He always tells great stories about what "old Trent" has to say about the 9ers. I am biased lol. I like Harbaugh too though.

I don't know Baalke and just read he went to Bemidji State last night. He could be a good dude for sure.

Seems ol' San Fran is in a bit of a pickle now, eh?
Maybe it's a similar kind of situation to what the Vikes had with Harvin: the guy is great for those three hours on Sundays but the other 6 days and 21 hours of the week he's an insufferable ####.
Also interesting is that the 49ers are apparently currently in talks with Kaepernick about a contract extension. I wonder if this Harbaugh debacle will factor into it, for either side.

Haslam dials 49ers HQs
Jed York: Hello?
Haslam: Hi, this is Jimmy Haslam from the Browns. Wondering if Jim Harbaugh could be traded for
Jed York: :::click. phone hangs up:::
few days later.....
Haslam: Yeah, I reached out to the 49ers but didn't work out.
NFL media: Good enough for us to write about!

This also shows that Haslam is over his head with being an owner. Way to publicized an attempted blockbuster trade. Why should ANY team trust you from here on out? I know people on here don't love Harbaugh, but you have to realize he is a good coach with a proven record of turning poor teams into great teams. Stanford was a snoozefest and he made them a power house. 49ers were a sub.500 team for a decade and he's turned that team into probably the most elite roster in the NFL. They may not be fancy with fantasy owners but they're so stacked and they play winning football.
Harbaugh also has a great track record of working with QBs extremely well. Kaepernick was viewed as a "project", and is now viewed as one of the most explosive players in the league. Again, fantasy owners might not like him but he had 21 passing TDs and only 9 INTs last year + 3-4 rushing TDs. If he was a Viking QB he'd be considered one of the greatest ever.
SF needs to go to a local bar, order some wings, a few pitchers of Stella, and hammer out any ugliness they've got. They've been my SB pick for the last few years and they're only getting better.
