I give him an A- for his first press conference. Loved his straightforward, no nonsense approach. Quite a refreshing change from Leslie mumble-nothing.
I only subtracted points because I was hoping for a deeper voice, lol. He can talk the talk though. Lets hope our team can walk the walk now. Wish we didn't have to wait 9 months to find out.

He even sounded nervous when he was being interviewed by Wobby.Webbfann wrote:That was quick. he sounds nervous and hyperventilating

I don't think he's been in the spotlight very much. At 57 years old, this is all new to him. Sure hope he figures out quickly.

I thought he did just fine after he finished with his "prepared statement" at the beginning of the presser. He seemed very comfortable and loose during the Q and A portion.Eli wrote: He even sounded nervous when he was being interviewed by Wobby.![]()

Spielman talks Mike Zimmer. One thing that stuck out at me was how he mentioned that Zimmer gets the most out of his players.

You can definitely tell he's a guy who's been an underling his whole career. Don't know if that will mean much in the long run, but I hope things goes more smoothly for him than it has for the past few Vikings coaches.

Well I mean you're in a new territory, new team, and new position job, so it's normal to be a little nervous. Once the preseason gets here he'll probably be fired up. He's got to get settled in first. He maybe is humble towards the fans and press but on the field the players have no idea how disciplined they will be.

You also see why he may not have been hired for a coaching gig earlier, a lot of people would see his nervousness and excitement as a turn off in interviews but I think once you get past that there is a LOT to like. I don't need a coach who's soft spoken and good at interviews, we've seen how far that got Frazier. He does a lot better after the opening script though, not worried about that at all.
Love his responses!

Me too. I realize everything right now is going to sound positive, but I really feel like teaching/improving players is big thing for him and it feels like he's passionate about the teaching aspect of coaching.mondry wrote:

I’m excited about the Zimmer hire (I even changed my avatar for him!) … but I’ve got to say reading all of this fawning over him reminds me of someone getting a new girl/boyfriend.
“Oh, she’s so great, not like my last girlfriend at all, she’s got so much passion and is so outgoing, and we’re going to be together forever!”
Here’s hoping “passion” doesn’t turn into momentary bouts of crazy like Denny Green’s “They are who we thought they were!” rant at the end of a disappointing season.

Definitely, that was awesome. I really liked his line about being an observer and a fixer, if I had to relate to myself that's the way I usually do things as well. See what the problem is, or what's wrong, use your analysis and judgement, and FIX IT! Not sit on your hands like Frazier all day.Crax wrote: Me too. Isn't that how everything is though? Oh my new car is so much better than my last car! Just kinda how it works, especially when your last thing was so bad at it's job, whether that's coaching a football team or hugging the curves, or in the sack! LOL.Cliff wrote:I’m excited about the Zimmer hire (I even changed my avatar for him!) … but I’ve got to say reading all of this fawning over him reminds me of someone getting a new girl/boyfriend.

Yeah, I suppose that's true.

Yeah, it's genuinely scary how quickly it can all go to hell for an NFL head coach. What I'm wondering at the moment is how long the Vikings will give him to turn things around? I figure he should get a solid three years. Anything less and the Vikings either have much worse problems higher up the management chain or else they made a really, really bad choice.Cliff wrote:Here’s hoping “passion” doesn’t turn into momentary bouts of crazy like Denny Green’s “They are who we thought they were!” rant at the end of a disappointing season.
