Can't you already say the same for his ribs? The Breeze wrote: Until he gets hit.

Re: Ponder dislocated shoulder
Don't know what the truth about any of that was. Could see them being worried about a busted rib near his heart, but he sounded like he was ready to play either way. I'm sure he can play with a bad non-throwing shoulder too....but it will hurt like hell if he gets it landed on....and possibly damaged worse.Crax wrote: Can't you already say the same for his ribs?
I'd want to play if I was him.
Re: Ponder dislocated shoulder

Unfortunate. I'm hoping he heals quickly. I just admire the guys toughness, to be honest. He's really showing that he wants that job and whether he's really capable or not, it's always a good thing to see.
Re: Ponder dislocated shoulder
Earlier I had thought the coaches would give Freeman a shot given the long week of preparation. I think this injury makes the decision a lot easier. Freeman should get his second start, this time though against a very good defense.

Re: Ponder dislocated shoulder
I was listening to NFL Radio this morning and the co-host (former player and forget his name) was baffled about Frazier's statements that Ponder is still the starter despite the injury.
I chuckled and thought "you don't know Frazier AT ALL." This is his MO.

I'm trying to figure out when he got a "throwing" shoulderCrax wrote:I believe he's already planning on playing in this next game. It's not his throwing shoulder, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue

Its the shoulder not attached to the arm that he uses to throw. Since throwing is more than just the elbow down or the shoulder down.
Re: Ponder dislocated shoulder
If that's the case, then the Vikings have the strangest QB depth chart that I've ever seen. Ponder gets hurt, Cassel comes in. But if Ponder can't start, Freeman will be the starter?S197 wrote:Earlier I had thought the coaches would give Freeman a shot given the long week of preparation. I don't get that.

I don't get that.
If you understood I am sure they would offer you a coaching position.

GBFavreFan wrote: It's sort of like Costanza leaving the room on a high note after a big laugh. When Ponder is having a good game, he throws himself recklessly into situations guaranteed to injure him before he screws things up. That way he can sit back for weeks or months listening to everyone talk about how great he is, then he returns and plays like crap again.

So the only logical explanation is that Ponder is putting his body at risk repeatedly in order to avoid playing a game he admits to loving and avoiding doing his life long dream of leading an NFL team as QB? Are we really to that point where we think the only explanation is suffering at the hands of a convoluted nonsensical james bond villian-esque plot?

The joke being, up until the last couple of games CP couldn't throw with his good shoulderIrishViking wrote:

Re: Ponder dislocated shoulder
My brief stint with sports, a dislocated shoulders is a fairly big deal. It takes at least a week for the swelling to go down. And it still hurts for a few weeks after that. I bet he's out at least 2 weeks, and is really wrapped up after that.

Re: Ponder dislocated shoulder
I had eight traumatic dislocations and dozens of others in my sleep. It ain't fun.
The problem is that once you get the first one (and especially the second), it happens again and again. The labrum gets damaged, and the shoulder won't stay in. Think of the labrum as something like a wax ring that would hold a bowling ball in place on a table. Take a chunk out of the wax ring, and the ball can roll out. Every time it does, it takes a bit more of the wax ring with it, and it becomes easier and easier for the ball to roll out. That's how it works with the glenoid socket (table), labrum (wax ring) and the humerus (bowling ball).
Pretty soon, it comes out as soon as you fall asleep and your muscles relax. Eventually you need surgery to fix the labrum -- otherwise you risk permanent damage or long-term arthritis. Once the doctors did that for me, the dislocations stopped.
This being Ponder's first (I assume), it will probably heal up pretty quickly. They can inject a steroid into the joint, and it'll feel great in a big hurry -- he could conceivably play against Seattle. But if he takes another hit or falls on it similar to what he took Thursday, it'll be out again. Second time is usually the kicker ... after that, you're very likely to have more, and more frequently. I got all mine playing baseball, so I can't imagine how easy it would be for a guy playing a violent sport like NFL football to suffer them.

If ponder didn't get injured, he would have committed a critical turnover and cost us the game. It's just who he is...testaverde 2013, minus the Canon-arm
