Statistically they were nearly identical last year
Ponder's numbers overall were pretty close to Cutler's last year too, but obviously there's no real question who is the much better player between the two. Chad Pennington (Ponders best possible future) once led the league in QB rating... So what?

Freeman would make a nice reclamation project for some team. He's got all the tools and has proven he can be productive as well. Also, unlike Ponder, he can push the ball down the field. With the play action you get from an RB like Peterson, you need a guy who can take advantage of the big play opportunities, especially with a young WR like Patterson coming up. I think he'd be a good fit in Minny if they have a coach capable of actually coaching him back up.

 ...little person.

And I believe Freeman is better than Ponder, but not worth the trade. He's just the (slightly) better choice of two poor options.

Ponder has pushed the ball downfield this year. That hasn't been the problem . The issue has been missing wide open WR either via poor accuracy (even when he does get the completion) or not even seeing them. Plus the bonehead picks and stare downs.

I agree with Poet. Tallest Midget at the Urinal... Why do we think Freeman is an upgrade over Cassel? Didn't Cassel have a monster year for NE once upon a time?

Because he's not Ponder?

I don't know. If the Vikes traded for Freeman I imagine he'd get about 4 games to prove himself "the answer" before most of the fan base turned on him and we heard the same things about him that we hear about Ponder. This is not a fan base that's inclined to be patient with a young, developing QB or a reclamation project.

I just don't think it's really a good strategy to keep trotting out game manager QBs like Ponder and Cassel when the division otherwise has transitioned to playmaker QBs. Freeman fits that mold. Just my two cents.

I can see Freeman being a guy that turns it around from the change of scenery. He has everything you want in a young QB of the tangible variety and he's already done things in this league that Ponder hasn't even came close to.

I honestly don't think it would be a bad thing to take a flyer on the guy for maybe a 5th round pick that won't turn into anything anyway. They get him in Minny before the bye week then they can get him ready for their next game.

We're all disgruntled, jaded ladies. We just want someone that won't burn us and will treat us right. The QB Of Our Dreams. Somebody we can take home and show our fathers. If he shows up, maybe we'll let him take us "all the way." But even when that man shows up, he'll still have to prove himself to us after a lengthy courtship. We're very high maintenance. But we're PRETTY, DAMMIT, AND WE DESERVE IT!

How, exactly, is Freeman a "playmaker QB?" If you're talking rushing stats, they're almost identical in their first 29 games.

Freeman: 103 rush/545 yards/0 TDs
Ponder: 103 rush/548 yards/4 TDs

I'd rather spend my fifth-rounder elsewhere.

No it's like swapping head lice for dandruff. They both suck, one just sucks less than the other.
