Manning, coming off of a serious neck injury, was question enough but as you said he had zero intention of playing with anyone who was not a contender and the Vikings certainly were not (3-13) and their receivers sucked and their pass protecting line sucked/sucks and Elway, by all accounts "talked" him into signing.
I can not believe that anyone is still bithching about Brees. He was coming off of a shoulder injury and could not even "best" Phillip Rivers so they traded him. It was, as it turned out, a great pick up by the Saints. 6-0 195 lbs talk about a midget How does he do it

I thought Denver was going to win it all last season. I love Peyton Manning. If the Vikings can't get it done, I sure hope it's this guy--and his Denver Broncos. He spent how long in Indy without much of a running game, or terrible impressive defense? 13 years as starter and he had two seasons under double digit wins. Despite plenty of years of no help from the running game, and a bottom half of the league defense.

When everything clicked they made a real push...when it didn't Manning almost singlehandedly kept them in contention.

Singlehandedly? Somehow I think Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Edgerrin James, Dallas Clark, Jeff Saturday, Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, and quite a few other members of those Colts teams would take issue with that.... and they should. Manning's play definitely helped those teams remain in contention but he had a lot of quality players around him. Harrison is probably a lock for the Hall of Fame.

Referring to the shortcomings of those Indy teams just reinforces Raptorman's point: it's about building a good team, not having just having a great QB.

While he is a an extremely smart gifted QB I still think he is a bit over rated. Where's the superbowl rings? He's what, 35 36 years old and only has one against the Bears with rex grossman as the opposing QB? Even his brother has two rings against Tom Brady. A Joe Montana or Bradshaw he isn't, He usually plays poorly outside in bad weather when the pressure is on, especially when he faces a tough pass rush. There's more to winning SB rings than just be a great surgical QB. No Doubt he is great , but Something is missing.

And yet before Manning got there he didn't top 1000 yards in either of his first two seasons. Is he a lock hall of famer without Manning? If he's stuck with a Christian Ponder type? Not likely. Is Manning a hall of famer without Harrison? Of course he is.

James? The guy that averaged about 100 y/g with Manning...and 70 once he left. One year under 4 ypc in IND. Once he left never got to 4 again.

It's impossible to say. Stick Manning on the current Raiders and are they a playoff team? Unlikely. You're trying to run down one great player to pump up another. Harrison and Manning helped each other, just like Montana and Rice and many other great QB/WR combos in NFL history. A great QB helps a great WR thrive but a QB needs playmakers too. Manning didn't get open for Harrison, didn't make catches for Harrison, etc. He gave Harrison opportunities to make plays by throwing him catchable passes and Harrison made them. The opposite is also true. Players like that have a mutually beneficial relationship on the field. One doesn't "make" the other.

... and where is Manning without his teammates? In football, no player singlehandedly carries a team. I don't care how much you want it to be true, it's simply not true. It's not surprising that players did better with Manning on the team. He's a terrific player and he obviously has a big influence on games but there's a difference between having an impact and singlehandedly carrying a team.

"There are no others...". Apparently, I named the only good players Manning ever played with during his 13 years with the Colts and if your post above is to be believed, they were only good because Manning played with them. Do you realize how completely ridiculous that sounds?

I named one o-lineman because I didn't think it was necessary to list every good player that played with Manning in order to make a simple point. If you want more members of the o-line, there's former NIU Huskie Ryan Diem, who played on that Colts o-line for a decade (they sure "cycled through" him fast, didn't they?) As you mentioned, Glenn was another good player on that line and it doesn't matter that he wasn't "some amazing hall of famer". That's not the point. He was good. Manning was surrounded by a lot of quality players on those offenses. It's not like he spent his career turning Stephen Burtons and Devin Aromashodus into superstars.

Stick Manning on the current Raiders and are they a playoff team? Unlikely.

Put Manning on any team, and they're a playoff team.
