Let me know when we win more games than last season, then I'll believe in your "rebuild" and "better season". Otherwise when we win 9 or fewer games, uh oh what now? You don't even know. Still better than 3 wins. SKOL Vikings!

If we achieve more than ten wins are you going to buy a Ponder jersey? :)

Yes, and as if to highlight something you wrote in another thread (which somehow became polemical): Kirk Cousins got hurt last night trying to gain an extra yard in this PRESEASON game.

Looked like he was trying to run out of bounds to me. Either way, injuries happen. That's football. Practice, preseason, regular season, tripping over a mat...you just never know! :)

Agreed, he was trying to get out of bounds and in so doing he exposed himself to a big hit and got hurt. Staying healthy comes from being smart first and being fortunate second.

I hope that's just what Leslie Frazier says to his team before next Sunday night's game!

Oh I didn't realize it was a Sunday night game. We usually get 49er games out here so I figured it would broadcast but almost seems like a lock now.

It's the NBC game so it will be broadcast nationally. I assume you'll get it even out there in the middle of the Pacific. :)

That was a big hit to you? Really? It appeared to be a pretty routine tackle to me. Cousins thought he could make it out of bounds without getting hit. He didn't quite make it. That makes it a poor decision? I don't see it.

So, which is it? Was he trying to gain an extra yard or trying to get out of bounds? The latter weakens your argument. How can you fault a guy for trying to be cautious and get out of bounds? What was he supposed to do? Fall down? He was being chased and thought he could make it out out bounds to avoid a hit, and that was the smart, cautious thing to do. Dozens and dozens of players do just the same. Are they wrong, too? Players should go from being cautious to paranoid or what? Good luck convincing NFL players to fall down instead of "exposing themselves" while trying to run out of bounds. How often do we see defensive players hitting a guy that is a half a step from out of bounds? That's what happened here. Lawrence Timmons didn't need to hit him; he was clearly going out of bounds. So, a second string QB sprained his foot while trying to run out of bounds. Yeesh. Foolish stuff. With that said, I still don't fault Timmons for the tackle either. While somewhat unnecessary, this is the NFL. It was an unfortunate injury. That's all.

I see your sarcasm, but I'm not quite understanding your logic. Look at the hundreds of guys out there playing their hardest who didn't get injured, but we're supposed to be worried about one second string guy who did? That is the deciding factor? That's all the proof you need? TIME TO TAKE IT EASY IN PRESEASON! I don't see it. Especially considering these second and third string players are fighting to make the team and/or auditioning for other teams. Of course they are going to play hard (but this play can't even be categorized as that). Anyone following Cousins' situation is probably aware he is essentially auditioning for other teams for the future. He's too good to be RG3's backup for life. I wouldn't even fault him for trying to make a play; and I certainly don't fault him for trying to be cautious in preseason. I think it was a good decision--just an unfortunate result. I'm sorry his decision didn't meet up to your standards of what would have been smart, but I think most players would have made the same one.

We've seen just as many--if not more--serious injuries during practice as we have seen in the preseason. I don't think it should change anything. Injuries happen every year. I'm all for player safety and being cautious, but I'm not for being unreasonably paranoid about the situation. What does that get you? Y'all are entitled to your opinions--as am I--and I still stand by mine that these guys should be playing like they mean it--preseason or not. Being overly paranoid about injuries doesn't exactly prevent them.

He had smartly slid when about to get hit on previous plays in which he scrambled. On this play he lunged for both extra yardage and to get out of bounds and for what? 2 yards? Stupid play; unnecessary. If you want your most valuable players to expose themselves to unnecessary hits then this kind of stuff will happen. If I were GM I sure would not want AD out there taking hits for an extra yard or two in preseason. Cousins isn't AD, but he's a heck of an insurance plan if RG3's knee doesn't hold up. Chalk it up to a youthful mistake/ lack of judgment. Cousins will learn w/ experience, as we all do.

This thread is awesome. 8)

Alright, but his priority was to get out of bounds. If he hadn't gotten injured (which is mostly just unfortunate) would you have said anything about it? I doubt it. So, mostly it was foolish because of the unfortunate injury? Hmm. If he was in the middle of the field and nowhere near the sideline, he probably would have slid. But when a guy is running and he thinks he can make it to the sideline...that's what he's going to do. He's not going to slide 2 yards from going out of bounds when he thinks he has the man beat.

I guess I'm just a BAMF for thinking running out of bounds isn't a foolishly ambitious play--not even for the preseason.

I think you mean to ask if I would have thought it a stupid decision even if he hadn't gotten hurt. Yes. It was a poor decision. What purpose did getting out of bounds serve? Nothing. So being in the middle of the field or not was irrelevant.

If it were the regular season and taking the hit to get out of bounds gave your team some kind of advantage then I'd be all for it.

There's times when being a BAMF is great, other times it's better to just be smart.

Well, in my opinion, he was scampering out of bounds to avoid the hit...so I think it was a smart decision.

And, again, I think you say NOTHING about this if the injury hadn't happened. I think it's so easy to say after the fact "haha told you so" but that's bogus. So many other players are being far more ambitious in the preseason than trying to run out of bounds to avoid a hit, and they AREN'T getting injured. So, I don't think one backup doing so is a strong argument.

As far as AD, I think he'll be playing hard even if he's only in for a series or two. And, that's just the way the man plays. Most guys in the NFL don't sissy down just because it's preseason, even if you'd like them to.
