Re: Issue with new uniforms
Mr. Eli,
The clips that I saw from the roof camera don't even look like the photo presented, which is a decent look. They look even lighter with the ceiling lights. However, now that I think about it, the wins/losses is much more important than the shade. By game six, if the Vikes aren't 5-1 or 4-2 at best, they'll be something else to talk about...3-3 isn't good enough!
Addendum: I hope that win/losses comment doesn't count as a topic highjack.
...wisdom

Siefert reports on purplegate:

After consulting with the Vikings and ESPN.com's resident uniform expert, Paul Lukas of the Uni-Watch blog, I can tell you there are many more factors involved in the perception of color than just what you see. Here is what Jeff Anderson, the Vikings' director of corporate communications, e-mailed in response to my hard-hitting questions:
"The purple tone of the helmets does match that of the uniforms, aside from the fact that one is a hard surface and the other a fabric. Viewers are seeing two things. The first is that the matte finish plays differently off the light; the angle from which the light is reflecting off the helmets can create an appearance of color change. The other issue is simply a distortion from HD televisions."

Re: Issue with new uniforms
I have a major issue with these new uni's. did anyone notice how terrible that bum ponder looked throwing those 2 passes in these awful fake-purple things?! he loaded up that weak noodle arm and just looked terrible in these things. and don't even get me started on how poor his leadership comes across on the sideline while wearing these awful uniforms. it's clear we have zero chance of any success and I think we're better off hiring someone to kill ponder and burn these hideous uniforms....

i'm ready for a beer.

Hahaha
Ever since the game last friday, this board has been ablaze over the new uniforms. I understand the concept of, "to each their own," but I honestly don't see what the big fuss is all about. The only part I dislike about the uniform is the material they used on the under sleeves in the replicas. The material in the replicas kind of restricts movement, but it could also be because I have big arms. and broad shoulders That being said, I am not sure how the under sleeve design is implemented in the actual on field jerseys, and it could be the exact opposite of the replica jersey.

As for the 'purple insider guy' that Siefert quoted, I think they are just making excuses for the guy, coddling him and such. I'm just tired of the excuses. There's no way we can win a superbowl with matte helmets. It's bush league stuff. The helmets should just be actual viking helmets with real horns and bits of scalps and hair from opposing QBs who've been broken along the way.
And the heck with numbers. They should just use combinations of runes inbibed with magik that gives the wearer uber-pagan powers. Plus it will confuse the heck out of opponents. This FO is wasting a perfectly good theme~

My bad, I should have brought some more evidence. In my opinion, the glossy helmet look will be a minority in the NFL by next year. I'd bet $ on it.PurpleHalo wrote: What other NFL teams adopted the matte look? And I dont see a lot of college, is there a lot that use it in NCAA?
The NCAA is a little bit ahead of this trend from what I've seen. I'm not gonna list off teams, but I know a ton are going the matte route.
I think they look awesome. Old school meets new school.

here's a start...

and I agree that the nfl is likely to jump on the bandwagon and I love it as well.

Re: Issue with new uniforms
I love the new uniforms. Of course it's going to take time for people to get used to it because it's a new look. Eventually everyone will get used to it. I'm more concern about winning to super bowl, I really don't care about the uniforms, I want some W's!!!!!!!!!
Re: Issue with new uniforms
Honestly I like Dark Purple 70's as well or better than any of them.....
Just add a little Packer Blood to any of them and look better SKOL

I wasn't taking you to task on your comment, I was just wondering. Is there other NFL teams who are using the matte? I kinda like it btw, the dare to be different concept.yezzir wrote: My bad, I should have brought some more evidence. In my opinion, the glossy helmet look will be a minority in the NFL by next year. And again I don't really watch college, so I really would have zero idea who uses them. But since Nike has had NCAA for longer than they had the NFL I'd guess theres several that do.
Whatever people think about these, anything is better then the 2006 - 2012 gear! I thought those were terrible.

On a slight side note: I'm guessing there will still be plans to wear throwbacks for a game or 2?

Re: Issue with new uniforms
Honestly the thing that drives me nuts about them is the numbers. It's not just the strange font, but that they didn't carry it across to the whole uniform. That to me looks stupid. Either make both numbers that way, or neither.

Maybe it has already done it's killing and is retreating back into the darkness! Yeah thats the ticket, ha.80 PurplePride 84 wrote: Jacksonville's helmet is matte, but it is also a 2 color gradient and atrocious.
The funniest part is their explanation for it was "It shows how a Jaguar lurks out of the darkness into the light on the hunt" when it's backwards on the helmet as the logo is facing from the light to the dark.
