First game I ever saw, on TV or otherwise. I was 9. Joe Kapp instantly became my hero, far more studly than Superman, Batman, Spider Man and The Incredible Hulk combined. Hence the avatar.
Driving back to Iowa from the Twin Cities, my dad simply could not convince me that ALL Vikings games would not be like this. Guess I shoulda listened.

Hard to believe. Obviously, I've heard of this game...but this was before my Mom was even born, so I definitely don't *remember* it. Thanks for participating!

Vike Fan 4 Life wrote:My dad and I are from Ohio so we don't get to see the Vikes live very often, but in that magical 09 season the opener was in Cleveland so of course we went. We dressed in our purple garb and walked through a gauntlet of insults to get to our seats, and if you guys recall we played pretty poor in that first half and every Browns fan within shouting distance let us know about it. When we finally got going in the second half the stadium was silent and after Adrian had his run where he just threw the browns defender off of him like a rag doll, all of those supposed loyal browns fans began mass exiting. It was a great sight, and a great run.
That was definitely a beastly run. One of my favorite of his career. I didn't remember the score/time left in the game, but I can see why fans started to leave after that. That officially ended their chances. With that said, after looking at the highlight video, that stadium was already pretty bare by that point. lol. Poor Browns fans!

Had to be between 2001-2004. However, before preseason et al, when the schedules came out, I started giving a guy I worked with crap about the 'pies and we made a small wager on the game. Of course, word of this got around our small plant quickly, the Vikings chick vs. the Cowpies dude. All was well until said incident and 'pies dude started wiggling a bit re the bet. No way was I letting him off the hook! Fortunately, we won.
Moment: When I walked into work that Monday, before I could even clock in, the scheduling manager (grinning widely) drug me over to 'pies dude to collect my winnings in front of an audience! It was an absolute hoot! He never bet against me again
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a pretty fun memory. It's always fun to stick it to people. Cowboys fans can be obnoxious. My older brother is one; I know all too well.
P.S. You get some love from me for being a "chick". I don't see many "chicks" on Vikings message boards anymore. There used to be quite of few on WeAreVikingsFans.com, but not since then. I know there are a ton of female fans out there, because I see them on game day and at the draft parties and such. I wish more would join message boards! It gets lonely! lol JK

We all have our favorite games, years, players, coaches (or…least favorite lol), etc. but what is everyone’s favorite moment? Just one moment in time that sticks out in your mind as the *best*.
If you could find a video of it from YouTube, that is even better!
Anyways, to sum mine up in a few words: the Greg Lewis Touchdown!
Do I need any more explanation than that? Probably not. But I will go on anyway. I’m bored on this Saturday afternoon so…
Back in April of ‘09, I got a wild hair one day and decided to look up Vikings season tickets. Long story short, I called my bank and told them to take the limit off of my debit card, and I ordered my season tickets right then and there. That day, I decided I was moving to Minnesota. lol. You only live once! In July, I headed up there and the rest is history. Here I was, this crazy 22-year-old who moved to Minnesota just for the Vikings. My family all understood it—because they know I’m some kind of fanatical weirdo—but my new coworkers up there couldn’t believe it. “No, seriously, you moved up here just because of the Vikings? No family? No friends? Just the Vikings?” Yep, pretty much.
Obviously, shortly after I arrived, so did Mr. Fav-ray. I don’t need to explain it, y’all already know…’09 was AMAZING, aside from a few bumps in the road and that last game. This is about favorite Vikings moments though—not suicidal ones—so I won’t go there. But, 2009 was just the best ever. I moved up there randomly, had awesome season tickets (Section 115, row 15, Vikings tunnel/corner of the end zone), and we just kicked butt all over the place—all year long. It. Was. Amazing.
My favorite games were vs. the Packers on Monday Night and the spanking we gave the Cowboys in the playoffs, but if I had to narrow it down to ONE single moment as the true highlight of that year—and my fanhood in general—it would be the Greg Lewis touchdown. I’m sure you all remember, so I don’t need to explain the significance of that one play. But to this day, I watch the video—and I get chills. It takes me back, and it’s just an awesome feeling.
The Dome was fairly quiet. Thousands of people were leaving. Everyone was depressed. I was thinking: “Are we seriously going to lose to the freakin’ Niners? Oh my God. Really?” All the fans were blah. Anyone who has attended a game when things aren’t going so hot…you know what I’m talking about! I honestly didn’t think we were going to pull it out. We were about rotten the entire game, but I refuse to leave until it’s over. I don’t care if we are winning or losing—I’m not leaving until it’s over! I’m not a lame-o who tries to beat the traffic or is too much of a coward to watch their team get spanked! I can take it. lol. So anyways, I’m just sitting there trying to stomach the last few moments…and then it happened. The Dome went from extremely quiet to completely crazy in one second! Everyone jumped up; beer, popcorn, nachos, etc. all went flying; everyone was screaming and jumping up and down. And, this lady who sat next to me the whole game—and we talked a bit—she looked at me and we smiled and hugged as if we knew each other. Then we went back to jumping around like idiots. It was simply the best. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Preferably, it would have been on MY side of the field, but you can’t win them all! I saw plenty of touchdowns on my end that year, so I can’t complain too much.
Needless to say, none of the other games were even close that year. The Packers game gave me a few heart attacks, but it was mostly gravy all thereafter.
Anyways, after that huge, unnecessary story…here is MY all-time favorite Vikings moment:
I have to agree with the Favre to Lewis pass. I was there, 40 rows up on the 49'ers 30 yard line. When Lewis caught that pass, I ran all the way down to the railing between the 1st row and the field due to my Viking fan euphoria. 2 Minutes later, I got like 20 text messages from people I knew saying I was just on national TV cheering my brains out during the SKOL chant. I've tried to find the footage of me cheering after that TD on youtube a couple times, but I havn't come across it.
Anyway, that is my favorite Vikings moment.

Yeah. It was pretty much the best. Hopefully you eventually come across that footage! If it was on TV, it has to be somewhere. Someone has it!
I was row 2 for the Vikings/Cards game when Harrison Smith ran in the TD. The guys were celebrating right in front of me. I was on TV then. I can actually see myself a couple of times. Not sure if I'm happy about that or not.

Born and raised in the Des Moines area.
The amazing part is that a) we were dirt poor, so I had no idea where dad got the money for the game, and b) he hated the Vikings -- we attended the game with relatives from Minnesota, so that's probably the only reason we went. For the rest of his life, my dad never stopped taking jabs at my love for the Vikings. And he absolutely LOATHED Fran Tarkenton. Called him "that little fairy."
But he took me to that game. No complaints here.

5 months ago 3 full pages. How hard it is to type 'favorite moment' into the searcher?
Never said it was hard. I just wanted to share my own story. But, thanks message board, ####. I may check that out.
Edit: Briefly skimmed through it. I see where some replied to that one, but haven't shared their story on this one. Maybe that explains it. I thought there would be more actual stories. While, people shared links to their favorite moments and such...I was looking for a background story and ONE moment. That is why I shared my story and ONE moment, not links to 8 of them. Either way, glad I checked it out. Some plays on there I never heard of. It's easy to say "oh, that's my favorite moment" but I was more or less looking for the reasons behind it being their favorite...not just some link to send us off to youtube. And so far, that's what I'm getting. I'm glad people are sharing some personal stuff.
Kind of bland and boring to share some link with no explanation. Not every play/memory is the same for everyone. That's why I wanted more than that. This is my way to get to know the frequent posters on here a little bit better. Notice how I'm replying to most of the stories and actually engaging in conversation. It's nice to share personal Vikings memories sometimes. At least, I think it is.
P.S. I wouldn't gripe too much about a repeated topic until I start making new ones about Ponder...just sayin'.

Ah, I'm 45 minutes north of Dubuque.
Why did he hate the Vikings? And who did he like? Either way, one heck of a memory--even more so considering the circumstances. That's pretty special.

Melanie,
It's hard to tell with some of the user names as they are not necessarily gender specific. I used this one since DH may want to come in and lurk around, but BBs are much more my thing. I do, however, pass on any tidbits I find
At the time of that bet, I was the only woman on 2nd shift I believe, and in a very male dominated field (shipping/receiveing, forklift at a metal finisher) so it was a bit of an uphill battle at times with the guys re my sports opinions. Besting one on a football bet was quite a coup. I think that year I was invited to join the football pool, and would have won, had it not been for the 'extra credit points' of miscellaneous questions asked from before the season opened (i.e. who would be in the playoffs, division titles, win SB, etc.), I had the best regular season record in the plant
Great thread, I like the back stories too.
I now work with a fairly rabid 'Pies fan. We'll see how the season starts before I put any $$ out there... I don't lose well!

That would be awesome. I'm pretty sure it is after they reviewed the play. After the ruling was confirmed they played the SKOL chant and I was on. I think that's the order it happened.

I went to a game in like 95 (Moon was QB) and it was against the Saints and we basically won the game on a last second end zone throw to Cris Carter. Maybe it was Quadry? Anyways... that was insane as it got.
