Man, you must have had some conversations with some terrible fans or you are just pulling that statement out of thin air. I don't think a single user on this board was pushing for the Vikings to sign Matt Flynn, Matt Leinart, or Kolb (not Cobb).

That statement came in 2009. That statement was made BEFORE we even had Favre on the team. What does that have to do with Christian Ponder, who didn't arrive until 2 years later?

Re: Peterson and his 2,500 yard goal.
My point was that some fans always want to draft, trade etc.. this QB or that QB, which is of course only natural, but to discount Ponder after 1.5 years and ready to spend another 1st round pick on a QB next year seems rediculous. This is his other post, "yup. target tajh noyd, teddy bridgewater or johnny manziel next year. cant imagine two more bad seasons with ponder".HardcoreVikesFan wrote: Ok?

I then was noting that several fans, including him were talking about wanting Simms, Cassell (who they now have), Leftwich, Garcia, Lienhart McNabb etc. to which you replied that no other fans wanted any of the mentioned QBs and I did happen to do a quick search and read where he was championing the possibilty of picking some up those other QBs.
In summation where are those QB's now and how would of they benefited the team? At least Ponder has shown marked improvement over the last fourth of the season and with this latest upgrade of wrs another training camp and better line protection then I see him fullfilling Frazier's and Spielmen expectations. They are seemingly banking, for the most part, their futures on him becoming their QB for a long time.
I apologize to the board for going sooo far off of the topic of AD and his quest for 2500 yds..

Re: Peterson and his 2,500 yard goal.
im just saying we should maybe look elsewhere if ponder shows little to no improvement this year. especially if most of these young qb's drafted have success this season like they have been in recent drafts. I don't think most Vikings fans will settle for mediocrity at the qb position.Purple bruise wrote: My point was that some fans always want to draft, trade etc.. this QB or that QB, which is of course only natural, but to discount Ponder after 1.5 years and ready to spend another 1st round pick on a QB next year seems rediculous. Re: Peterson and his 2,500 yard goal.
Yeah guess the back up plan is Cassell? Way to handle the position. As usual. Not looking to the future at all in case it does fail. Just all in on TJoke/Ponder/random ancient guy we're going to start if there is trouble at the position.im just saying we should maybe look elsewhere if ponder shows little to no improvement this year. especially if most of these young qb's drafted have success this season like they have been in recent drafts. Or if all else fails, we'll just throw a 1st at the BQBA again.

Re: Peterson and his 2,500 yard goal.
They need to be more balanced to win, they got lucky being 10-6 with Adrian carrying them on his back. That usually doesn't work in the NFL. I don't care if there was an actual distribution balance, the balance needs to be in the output from the passing game. No 60 yard passing days! There was a several week stretch, where Adrian had more yards than Ponder, more yards rushing than Ponder had passing.

Re: Peterson and his 2,500 yard goal.
I think what you are looking for is less balance. More yards in passing. Last year the Passing/Rushing numbers were basically dead even. 482 passing attempts, 2751 yards and rushing was 486 attempts, 2634 yards. The NFL average for 2012 was 556 passing attempts, 3700 yards and 435 rushing attempts and 1854 yards.PurpleHalo wrote:They need to be more balanced to win, they got lucky being 10-6 with Adrian carrying them on his back. Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966
Re: Peterson and his 2,500 yard goal.
That 2:1 ratio of passing to rushing is considered balanced in football, not the 1:1 ratio we had. I would go a step further and say I expect my QB to have a higher avg per pass than my RB's average per rush.Raptorman wrote: I think what you are looking for is less balance. More yards in passing. Thanks to that 65 yard pass to Wright in the final game of the season, Ponder avoided becoming the first QB in NFL history to finish with a lower average per pass than his RB had per rush. Through week 16 AD lead Ponder 6.04 (314-1898) to 5.94 (455-2701). Ponder finished the season at 6.08 (483-2935) to AD's 6.03 (348-2097).

Yeah that is interesting except for one main factor, AD WAS THE BACkReignman wrote:That 2:1 ratio of passing to rushing is considered balanced in football, not the 1:1 ratio we had. I would go a step further and say I expect my QB to have a higher avg per pass than my RB's average per rush.

Considered by whom? It seems like something that's very situation and strategy dependent.Reignman wrote:That 2:1 ratio of passing to rushing is considered balanced in football, not the 1:1 ratio we had.
Re: Peterson and his 2,500 yard goal.
Many teams throw the ball 60 to 65 percent of the time, and the Vikings did run the ball 50.4 percent of their plays. And, no, I'm not going to go through all the teams and do the math. But quickly scanning the offensive team stats, it appears the majority of teams hover around the 60 percent threshold.
I don't have a problem with the amount of time the Vikings run the ball. They are good at it. I think they would be better at it if defenses didn't know it it was coming most of the time. If they can improve their passing, they will become a more efficient offense. They don't need to be able to air it out like the Packers, Patriots or Saints. Good teams, championship teams, are able to impose their will on opponents. If the Vikings were able to run the ball down people's throats, helped with a solid passing game, and their passing could turn some of the FGs into TDs ... They could control the clock and the game. They don't need to be trendy, just really good at what they want to do.
I voted that the Vikings won't get AD the chance. Not saying he isn't capable, but it isn't in the best interests of the team.

My biggest problem with Ponder is AD pulls 8-9 guys to line why cant he find open people more ..
I don't expect the guy to be a hall of fame QB or anything but 8-10 guys on the line someone has to be

Re: Peterson and his 2,500 yard goal.
That really depends on if A) he has adequate time to find them before getting chased/sacked and B) the receivers can get a step on the defenders. Failure can happen from all over. It's not all on Ponder. However one can speculate (though never confirm) that if we had Tom Brady behind center last year approximately how many more attempts/completions would he have had vs. Ponder. I know if Ponder is being hurried I don't want him to throw an ill-advised pass across his body or throw a ball to a blanketed receiver. That's when bad things happen.jackal wrote:My biggest problem with Ponder is AD pulls 8-9 guys to line why cant he find open people more ..
