Brad Johnson was a really good quarterback though. Much better than Trent Dilfer.

Agreed. I don't think he deserves to be lumped in with Dilfer as a QB who just rode a great defense to a SB win.

I really couldn't care less who the Vikings played or beat in the Super Bowl. I think a Vikes/Bills bowl would be as intense as a Stanley Cup game 7, blood and death would be left on the field in order to win!

Addendum: I actually like the Bills, but as the Smoking Man told his staff on Christmas Eve, "The Buffalo Bills will never win a Super Bowl as long as I'm alive!" Then again, I guess he did die in the X-Finale!

Winning the Super Bowl is like the perfect storm in today's NFL..

Teams have very short windows; to win a super bowl in today's NFL..
Players don't stay with teams very long and good coaches get snatched up
quickly. Your team must stay healthy. The more success you have the more
expensive your players become. With all the technology today and film study
it is much more difficult for a team to disguise its playbook.

About that disguising the playbook. I think a good O coordinator should be able to run many different plays from the same formation. Think about it. If you used the same formation to run 20 different plays how would the defense be able to tell what you are going to do? I am sure they do some of this but if you had 100 plays and only 5 formations, don't you think that would be confusing to the defense?

Regarding the 76 season, I think the 75 team was actually the better of the two. Even Tark said the same thing.

That's another reason why the Pearson Push-off was a crime.

The 75 team was phenomenal. I don't know if it was the best in Vikings history (the 69 team was pretty darned good, as was 98) but for my money, it was easily the best of the Tarkenton-led teams.

I gotta agree, if we're wishing and dreaming, then I'd want it to be the Steelers. Beat the Packers in the season finale to eliminate them and win the division, then beat the Cowboys in the wildcard, Saints in the divisional round, Falcons in the championship, and Steelers in the bowl. All in dramatic fashion except the Steelers, we beat them 42-0 because my nerves couldn't handle a super bowl nail-biter. Sorry, my wishes tend to get specific xD.

I agree on the talent of the old Vikings teams; however, reading/hearing about that talent just reopens old wounds for me. Regardless, I'll always pull the nordic way! A year-round open stadium would do such wonders!

Tark was great that year. It may have also been Chuck Foreman's best season ever, what with rushing for over 1000 yards, catching 73 passes, and scoring 22 TDs.

In fact, everyone on the team seemed to play their best ball during '75. The D was simply amazing.

The '75 season is too often forgotten when talking about the best Vikings teams ever.

Technically the Vikings have 1 NFL championship. In fact it was the last NFL championship in '69, the year before the AFL/NFL merger. Unfortunately for us they had to play this thing called the super bowl the following week against the AFL champion Chiefs. I don't know if that helps anyone sleep better, but it is what it is. Suck it cheese, we have 1 title ... kinda sorta.

Oh and bonus trivia, the Vikings beat the Chiefs 27-10 in week 1 of the 1970 season in the first ever NFC/AFC regular season game. Yeah I know, knowing that almost makes all the pain of losing super bowl 4 go away xD.
