I have never seen a punter as overrated as Kluwe . He couldn't directional kick to save his life. As a person, he was cool, but as a punter... Not so much.

the KFAN facebook made me insane yesterday when they posted the bit about the drafted punter. The amount of homophobia was disgusting. What also annoys me is that who cares if he's got interests outside of football? Matt Birk had a freaking restaurant (the place then turned into "501 club". I booked the music there.), Randy Moss had his smoothie joints, etc, etc....From what I gather from the couple of musician friends I know who are tight with him...he likes football but isn't some crazy fanatic.

Ha. Speaking of the band, after he left the Dome yesterday he was headed to go finish his 4th album.

Anyways, I love Kluwe. I love him as a man first--and a football player second. Usually, for me, it's probably the other way around.

Either way, I wish him the very best. I have nothing but love for the guy.

It will be sad to see Kluwe on the way out.... Spielman and co can posture and say its a competition but in reality when you draft a punter he pretty much has to make the team.

don't remember special teams much but if I remember right kluwe didn't kick the ball out of the endzone much last season, or the season before that, or the season before that.......

Seemed like a cool guy, but he really is just an average to sometimes below average, punter.

The Vikings just got a guy who can really be a gamechanger. Sounds weird considering it's a punter, but a strong punter becomes a very valuable piece to helping in winning games.

Kluwe progression has fallen a little. Locke is by far a better punter when a stronger leg and one of the best directional punters in college. He has the coffin corner leg that will pin the opposing team deep in their own territory. Kluwe isnt bad though but he has shanked some major punts during key moments of the game.

I like Locke, he gives the Vikings could field position assuming the defense holds their end of the bargain.

Vikings should have drafted tyler wilson or landry jones instead of a punter. we have ponder and cassell for the next few years at least, two of the worst qbs in the league.

I think you can argue this issue one either way -- unless, of course, the Vikes got rid of Kluwe because he spoke his mind (which would REALLY piss me off). I choose not to believe that because Kluwe wasn't in the top half of the league in either gross yards per punt or net yards per punt. When you don't break average on the field, your fans can't really complain when you are let go.

The bottom line for me is that for the same reason I agree with Kluwe that Ray Guy is a legit hall of famer, I have no problem with a team drafting a punter in Round 5, notwithstanding that there were surely a bunch of guys available that (in hindsight) would have helped us more.

I'm fine with replacing Kluwe. Sign the youngster to a multiyear rookie deal and save a few million.
Kluwe probably has a lot more to offer than being an NFL punter anyway, should he chose to just retire....assuming he's not re-signed.

Chance of a fifth round punter making it are what? Hundreds of times better than any other position? Much rather they do that they draft some camp fodder which is how those picks usually pan out.

As far as Kluwe, he's definitely not elite enough that anyone is going to lose any sleep. But at the same time we could do worse. I doubt we will, but in this offense, as Childress put it, the Punter is a real weapon.

Many of my favorite players are fired (Winfield, Harvin, Kluwe) but this is likely a far better and more formidable football team, provided the new weapons end Ponder's struggles once and for all.

Kluwe should pursue a career in public speaking.

This is just one of the parts of sports. I have followed baseball for much longer than football, (my entire self aware life) and it happens in that sport too, albeit slower. Teams are always reinventing themselves and the faces of their franchise. I mean, as sad as it is to think about. The odds say that Adrian is over halfway done with his career. I hope that rather than looking at this as another loss, we are able to welcome in our next "all-star" (lol) punter.
