Though true, I would advise him to never give up the dream, faith can lead to some remarkable achievements. Just look at AD's ridiculous recovery, obviously he's a human phenomenon and this was more well documented due to prior achievements but anything's possible. I wish him all the best!
A couple of this year's 'soon to be' draft class, including Jarvis Jones were told they would never play football again due to spinal issues but sheer effort has lead to them being given the all clear.
I wouldn't completely write anyone off.

Well, I don't want to write off a professional athlete completely, but this isn't the first time. In fact, this is the third time he has torn that particular tendon. I am sorry, you just don't see people make it back to a high level of conditioning after an injury like that. For all the Adrian Petersons and Thomas Davis(s) of the world, there are plenty of Cadallic Williams(s) and Terry (or was it Marcus) Allens.

I was not aware that this was the 3rd time that he has torn the same tendon ( 3 times)

. Do you have a link?

I can't vouch for 3 on the same knee ... but his wiki page has 2 on the same knee and 1 on the other knee;
As a junior in 2010, he played in eight games and had 46 receptions for 659 yards and six touchdowns before suffering a season ending patellar tendon injury.[1]

That was puzzling. I was aware of the injury and recovery in college and then he reinjured the repaired knee and at the same time tore the "good" knee

I was not aware that he had injured a same knee for the third time. If this is true I would say that recovery and playing again would be nearly impossible.

I don't know if there is a 3rd on the same knee but three overall before he's played a snap of NFL football? Two on the same tendon on the same knee and another brand new injury to boot?
I think it's safe to we're already in "nearly impossible" range.

You are probably right. I followed some of his twitters and he sure is upbeat and says that he will be recovered and playing this year. Stranger things have happened.

come on guys, at least get serious. this guy is so damaged he will never play in the nfl again, and if he does, he'll likely just get hurt again. its obvious this is a chronic problem for him, how can someone recover from an injury like that twice??? lets at least discuss who can actually help the team.

You too

No one that I know of has or is having any expectations that he will recover enough to play again. This is just a discussion about him and his injuries for the most part.

I also wasn't aware that the most recent injury was a third occurence. I admire him for his upbeat nature and tremendous spirit, though sadly he just seems fated. You can never give up though, if it's something that's truly special to you personally.
Obviously he's besotted with the game and willing in every way to attempt to make a go of it, if it's meant to be, hopefully his chance is still on the horizon.

I did not know that VMB was full of sports medicine doctors.
I dont suppose that Childs deserves at least a shot, even though it is a long one? I am sure that at some point in the draft the Vikes will pick up a WR and most likely to be on the inside track to make the team and still Childs should get a chance to compete for a spot.

Of course he'll get a chance to compete and I'm sure everyone wishes him the best but I think due to the injuries, expectations need to be realistic.

just to clear up his injury detail: He tore one tendon his last college season and rehabbed. Vikes picked him and he proceeded to tear the tendon in both knees at once, during camp. Hence he has tallied 3 patellar tendon tears in 2 years.
long odds and a sad story

No, he tore it during his junior year and was hampered by the injury all thorugh his senior year, in which he caught only 21 passes. Which makes you wonder whether he can fully recover from his latest injury by the time training camp rolls around. I have a feeling that they may end up IR'ing him and waiting until 2014 to see him again.

yeah...what i meant was that the college injury occurred in his last productive season. but he did play in his senior season. i don't really wonder if he can recover from two tears since it seems like he really never recovered from the first one.
if it doesn't cost them any spots to IR him i'd do it, he does deserve a shot if he wants IMO...otherwise i'd move on asap.
