OT: What do you guys eat in Minnesota?

Run into some old friends from another group or board? Want to do a little schmoozing, talk over old times? Or just some off topic stuff, then this is the place.

I haven't cooked (seriously) for a tailgate since the outdoor days at the Met. and it was a matter of what you could do on a couple Coleman stoves - four burners.

The biggest hits in those days were:

Early games (Noon), breakfast - Hash browned potatoes topped with smoked fish and a egg. The fish can be whatever fits your budget.

Late games - Beef, beef and more beef. I'm not a big fan of beef but that's what the gang ate. I tried other... Corned beef might have been the biggest hit when I had time to cook a day ahead, you can do anything with it from sandwiches to stew.

My favorite ever was a walleye "fish fry" on a very cold December afternoon. Served with Veggie soup and a homemade roll. I still remember that one, prepared by friends who won't tell me to this day what they put on that fish!

There was a championship game where a few of the regulars did a "Booya"... but that takes about two days and I'm not sure what goes into it, pretty much anything you can think of. They made the local news camped out on a Friday... I never tried the stuff but others said it was good.

Tailgating to me is about what you can make in the parking lot. Shouldn't be fancy, just good. It is a challenge to those who really get into it.

A Wild Rice Hotdish is definitely Minnesotan... Yummy. I've never tailgated, but I think it'd be difficult to make a hotdish. You could do a Wild Rice Soup. That might be easier. BTW, make sure you use real wild rice... Not that cultivated garbage! The hand harvested wood parched stuff that sells for 9$-10$/pound, but IMHO it's the only way to go. Fortunately I like to "rice" so I've got about 35 lbs. of it in my basement.

Well in minnesota we eat fish.We are the land of 10,000 lakes. And when i went to the taste of the nfl minnesotas dish was fillet of walleye. To most minnesotians this is a "steak" if you will. This is also easy to prepair on a grill in the lot.well good luck.

Beer battered fish
Beer brats
Hamburger patties and brats cooked in a crock pot with onions and beer.
Beer
Not to hammer home the beer thing, this isn't to endorse drunkenness or binge drinking or anything like that, but have you ever tried to get beer at a sporting event? The prices are outrageous and they stop serving it very early.
Nobody said dessert yet, so I suggest kringle. Man, I'm gonna eat a load of that when I go home for Christmas.
Pecan and/or poppy seed, and some fruit ones for the other people who don't like that.
Its like danish if danish didn't suck.

Anything, as long as it's deep-fried and on a stick.
