I think what balances it out is that, when the sun goes down, it gets fairly cool. My fiance` lived in Vegas for 5 years and she really longs for that weather.

Here in the Upper Midwest, if it's hot during the day (and humid) you are in for an uncomfortable night as well.

Yeah, plus it depends which part of California you're in. Generally speaking you've got a nice breeze coming in from the ocean which helps quite a bit as well. I doubt the effects of that can be felt all the way in the desert though.
