I didn't make it past your first video link man ... sorry.

I'm already not a horribly big country fan ... but after the McDonald's promo ... the Christianity-based "No cussing, pray real hard!" lesson ... and a video laced with Camo-pant wearing, huge truck owning, baseball cap having stereotypes ... I just can't go on.

The guy managed to fit in "Chicken nuggets, French fries, orange drink, and happy meal" into the first minute of the song ... now that's music with a lot of soul ...

I am sure you could find some country music you like, I have yet to find a genre of music that I couldnt find things I liked.

Glad you had a great time at the concert! What I have discovered is that if you want to see someone live, make sure it's someone who is a great live performer, and not just someone whose songs you really like. I saw the Smithereens (a band whose music I love) in the 90s and they were a great live band! Harry Connick, Jr. was truly amazing live.

As for country music, I trend toward Dwight Yoakam and the Mavericks, with a dash of the Dixie Chicks thrown in. Bluegrass is a fantastic genre and the shot in the arm that it received from "O Brother, Where Art Thou" really brought to light even more fantastic musicians.

I agree that popular country music has become pretty lame for me. Just like grunge ended up becoming lame, rap became lame, R&B became lame, metal became lame, techno became lame, psychedelia became lame... notice a trend? When genres become money-making schemes instead of artistic outlets, we all suffer.

The sickest thing for me is turning on the radio and honestly not being able to tell the difference between the artists I hear on the radio. Unless I'm listening to the Current. That station rules. But maybe I'm just getting old...

There is certainly some country music I like. Mostly older stuff. My neighbor got me into Dwight Yoakum and Buck Owens a bit. I also enjoy Johny Cash and Unknown Hinson

Most of the newer "country music" strikes me more as R&B with steel guitar and a "twang" in their voice and I'm just not a huge fan. It's like most of the newer country artist's have some kind of "song generator" that they all use ... though I guess you could say the same about certain rock artists ... man I dislike "emo" ...

The way I enjoy Rock compared to Country music is about the difference between the size of the earth compared to the size of the sun though ... there certainly is a lot more I like.

Great album and movie.

My next door neighbor and I trade music back and fourth. He's more into country and I'm more into rock. I had him listening to the strokes ... he thinks they sound very "Blue Grass" and after listening to some of his music I mostly agree. They are now one of his favorite bands ... along with the White Stripes, who have major Country Music influences (Jack White even produced loretta lynn's last album) as well as Blues influences.

I feel I have failed in life.

Oh yeah BGM, Keith Urban is amazing live, simply put. It truly is a rock show.

Ok, I finally got the time to listen to all of this. first, that Dierks Bentley song, I realize after i click on it, is one that I have heard on the radio in various stores and I HATE that stupid song.

The Rodney Adkins stuff is equally bad in my opinion. All of those songs get 0/5 for being F-A-K-E.

BUT, I will give you shiftwork and i'm gonna miss her as being decent. The production is comparatively sparse and it sounds kinda like country music. Obviously some Jimmy Buffet influence in the shiftwork song, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Back where I come from was very much a pop song in my opinion. Didn't like it.

In any case, I do now have to acknowledge that Paisley and Chesney have both made at least one song which isn't a complete insult to the genre.

I like Cash, a couple George Strait songs (Dwight Yoakum is my favotire from that era), don't know much Alan Jackson and don't like Tim McGraw.

Honestly, I just find these songs by alan jackson to be melodically and lyrically really boring. They just don't have any guts.

Thats funny, I kinda see myself in that old guy...except I would never say "big and rich" play rock and roll...that would be a slap in the face to that genre!
innocuous, uninteresting, boring, gutless..."pop" is probably the best way to describe what they do.
