If you look at it from a moneyball perspective, even if these guys are healthy and play at career average levels all season you are still overpaying every single one of them.

What do we lose by retaining Sully, Load and even Kalil's services and allowing them to compete for a spot? Yes we need some new OL, via free agency and the draft, but we need to let our injured guys at least compete and possibly become backups, IMO.

Furthermore, why would we want to blow this team up? We just won the division! I don't think there's any way that we move on from AD. None. He is the center of our offensive identity still.

... and yet, as the center of that identity on an 11 win, division winning team, he's apparently a poor fit.

I'm with you: they don't need to blow this roster up. They need to fine tune it.

I'm with both of you too. I wouldn't blow it up, but I'd move on from Peterson in order to keep players like Harrison Smith and Xavier Rhodes going forward..

I understand but I doubt cutting Peterson will be necessary to make that happen.

And Sharrif Floyd, and Mike Harris, and a couple FA Linemen, etc. ;)

My point is, I want to keep the core of this young team together for a long time. 1/4 of the entire salary is eaten up by the 4 players I specifically think we should move on from. 2 of them didn't even play this year, and one of them had only modest contributions.

Berger has done very well this year, in fact for the season he is PFF top rated center.

The pay out for our young players is not all due next year. By the time AD retires with his huge salary, it'll be time to spread that money around.

As for the 5.4 + 11 numbers you mention: I say we have them compete in camp and then decide what our best play is. There's no guarantee that whomever we bring in is automatically going to be better. We need to (and will) proceed intelligently--assessing the talent currently on the roster as well as any others we bring in.

There's no way they open the new stadium without AD on this team. The year after might be interesting but I think Zygi will make sure he has his all-star on the roster.

Indont think that is what Texas meant. I believe he was saying that we pay some of the players this year and some of them when AD eventually retires.

And now its no too early for this...so that's a silver lining.

re-sign greenway and Newman for a year each, keep Robison around, he's been valuable this year. Trade AD for whatever you can get. Cut Mike Wallace. Cut Blair Walsh. Cut Locke. Spend big on OT and OG in FA or via trade. Get a new O Line coach. How can the same 5 guys play all 17 games and never get any better?

Was just an overall comment based on the trade/cut discussion, wasn't meant for anyone specific.

Mike (PHP), do you think Wallace will be back? I like him and he seemed to be the only real deep threat we had. He is also the only established WR we have. I hope he returns.

I wanna say no. Too much money too little production

I'd much rather overpay for offensive line help!

We need to look at what areas do we need to improve to beat playoff teams like Seattle, Denver, and Carolina.
Obviously, tonight, I hope to draft Roberto Aguayo the kicker from Florida State.
Next, the OL battled but we don't have an answer for a dominant interior DL. Nor can Kalil handle elite pass rushers. This interior has to be improved to give Teddy a pocket to step up into to throw. He's going backwards too often.
Another ball hawking Safety with ball skills.
A WR coach that teaches guys how to run routes. They're terrible. Too often pinching the sidelines giving Teddy no room to throw. Not having a feel of how to get open.

Most importantly, consistency! Teddy throws to open receivers. I rarely see him anticipate and throw to a spot before the WR breaks off his route. Timing, consistency, and familiarity create this.
With that being said, I don see much of a WR overhaul. I am hoping Wallace returns to a much lower contract.
