scary as in bret favre scary, randy moss scary, or the williams wall scary ? maybe Cordarrelle Patterson will be a pro bowler someday like randy moss, and sharriff Floyd can have the success like pat Williams had. but ponder needs to have a break out season or Vikings should get a franchise qb in next years draft. looks like a better crop of qb's next year.

Injuries aside, I don't understand any comparison between Jennings and Harvin. It isn't just systems or QBs that separate them. They're two different players with two completely different takes on they play the game of football. Jim, you might be surprised if Harvin ever eclipses Jennings' best seasons and I wouldn't argue with you. But I'll be more than shocked if Jennings runs the ball out of the backfield for the Vikings or leads the NFL four straight years in KO returns the way Harvin did. That doesn't make Jennings less of a player, just a different one. And vice versa for Harvin and Jennings as receivers.

You're right that they're very different players but I do see a point in comparing them purely in the sense of considering what was lost by trading Harvin to what was gained by signing Jennings.

Easier said than done. There is a strong possibility that the guy we pick never materializes into anything close to a franchise QB. I would still rather go that route than pick up a journeyman, however.

I agree. i'm just hoping. frazier probably has more patience than Viking fans who have been agonizing for years.
if not the draft, has to be a mediocre qb that could manage the game better than ponder on the market next off season if ponder doesn't improve more.

Excuse my denseness here but for some reason I'm not sure what you mean. I guess I see the Jennings acquisition as a *need* even if Harvin was still on the team. So Jennings' skills are a gain no matter what, in my view. I see the loss of Harvin's skills as creating another kind of void that I believe the Vikings tried to address by drafting Patterson. Maybe we're talking apples and oranges here. If so, I apologize but as I said, maybe I'm not getting the original point.

You're right, I think we are talking apples and oranges. You're talking about the skills of these receivers and I was talking purely about production in terms of yards, points, etc. with no consideration for those how those yards are gained or how those points get scored.

I agree that the Vikes needed a more skilled receiver like Jennings regardless of what happened with Harvin and I agree that Patterson is the most likely candidate to handle some of the things they asked Harvin to do in the past. I was saying that purely from a production standpoint, I think there's value in comparing what the Vikes potentially gained by signing Jennings and what they lost by trading Harvin.

In terms of skills and position, it's more like Jennings is replacing Jenkins and Patterson is replacing Harvin, although I don't think we need to look at it that literally. In the end, I'm simply hoping all the changes they've made will result in a significant net improvement in WR production this season.

Thanks for clarifying that. Yeah, we were looking at it from two different perspectives. I agree with your take on it.

Speaking of Jennings, one of the things I really like about having him on the team is that he's such a *complete* WR in that he's smart and skilled but also precise in his assignments (very important). He also is knowledgeable about the division teams, which shouldn't be overlooked either.

That's a good point. He'll be facing a lot of defenders he's faced many times.

Jennings also adds presence and poise to the WR group. Before the best guy of the group was described as "mercurial" and the rest were either devil's rejects, practice squad fodder, or ancient. Now we have a bonafide top notch WR who can help the other guys get better.

yep, just like last time they forced a QB at their draft spot and just penciled him in as the franchise QB...until he proved he wasn't.

Hopefully this time AD doesn't get us a late pick and we decide a noodle armed midget like Johnny Football, who is the "BQBA", isn't our franchise QB until he more than proves he isn't.

If we have to run with that mediocre QB, even Cassell, for a year or two until we are in a position to get an elite prospect at QB, or maybe even move a pick or two to go get one, I hope they do it. No more panicing!

If Ponder fails then I'm not for sitting around and waiting for next potential franchise guy, while Cassel takes the snaps. That would ultimately lead to an almost entire waste of AP's career. You've GOT to have more to show when you have probably the best running back in the history of the game for the prime of his career.
