Joe Webb wasn't exactly throwing balls that Aromashodu could catch. And on at least one other play, he was completely interfered with and had no way to come back to the ball. Yeah, Burton had a fumble, but at he also gets open. He did a nice job blocking on a few plays, too, including Webb's long run.

Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero
Frazier on Harrison Smith: "We’re counting on him to be the starter, and I haven’t seen anything ... that I would say is a setback."
Christian Ponder @CPonder7
Great energy at the dome tonight! Thanks to all the fans that showed up! Happy to get a win. Skol!

The dome crowd started at wave that literally lasted thirty minutes. People throwing programs into the air when the wave hit their section. For a Pre season game... Hell of a time.

Exactly! But this coaching staff loves big strong run stuffers that literally cost the team games in coverage. They continue to try and force Brinkley, even though he wasn't that good before, and is even worse now.
Brinkleys whiff on that blitz was a thing of beauty. It takes a truly "special" talent to manage that.
Cole might not be fast, or strong. But he has good instincts and clearly has a better grasp for the position than Brinkley ever has or ever will.

@TomPelissero: Don't see much progress here with Jasper Brinkley. Still looks way too tentative. I really wonder if they're going to go to Plan B. #Vikings
@TomPelissero: As I wrote last night, could be Erin Henderson at mike, Marvin Mitchell at will. RT @FoleyChiro: @TomPelissero yikes, what's plan B
@TomPelissero: Frazier on Brinkley last night: "He has to get comfortable and he has to believe, ‘I’m not going to get hurt.'" Not a ringing endorsement.

I didn't get to see the two Cole INT's, so when I watched the highlights I thought they would both be sort of "oops" plays where Cole just got lucky, but neither of them were. On both Cole recognized pass quickly, got into his drop, watched the QB's eyes, located the target, and jumped it. Perfect MLB play in a Tampa 2. I don't know how Cole does in practice, but from what I've seen of him in games he has that rare thing that can't be taught - instincts. Given what the Vikings have at MLB, I'd get him on the field with the starters for the remaining two preseason games and see if he can do it against the opponent's starters.

Just gotta wonder how Cole could possibly be buried in the depth chart if he keeps making these plays, preseason games or not. Maybe I'm missing something here. Maybe it's because he's playing against other second and third stringers, but what I'm seeing is Cole makes big plays happen. It's not luck either. He reads the play and then reacts.
I mean, sooner or later it seems that Cole has to be looked at as being someone who should be playing earlier than the 4th quarter.

Interesting nugget here.
Changing it up
One week after giving up 260 yards rushing to San Francisco in the exhibition opener, the Vikings held the Bills to only 68 yards on 20 carries (3.4 average).
They did it with more sound fundamentals, but also a strategic change that could be a sign of things to come for their Tampa-2 scheme.
In 13 gradable snaps with all or most of the starters on the field, the Vikings played a two-deep look only three times -- the first snap of each series. They repeatedly rolled Harrison Smith, Mistral Raymond or Jamarca Sanford down to match up in coverage, blitz and help against the run, with mostly favorable returns.
Raymond stopped Jackson for a 2-yard loss on a run blitz on the opening series and then made an aggressive move out of quarters coverage to stick Jackson after a 1-yard reception on the next snap, halting the Bills' opening drive. Minutes later, Smith batted down a pass on an inside blitz to end the Bills' second drive.
The Bills didn't burn them until the third drive, when Sanford took a false step as Donald Jones crossed his face and won the race to the pylon for a 31-yard touchdown. The Vikings reinserted Raymond on the next drive.

I think that's a lot easier, and safer, against the Bills offense than some others we'll face though. But at least it's nice to see them trying out some different things.

That reminds me of the game at TCF stadium where they were tossing snow up into the air. Man, there really needs to be some home outdoor games (during the winter)
