I hope you're right, but I have my doubts. Lots of teams have Slater as the best OT in the draft, ahead of Sewell. Not sure I agree, but I can't see him lasting until 14. Hope I'm wrong.RandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 12:56 pmI do not think Vikings need to trade up, I think Slater will be there at #14

Re: Pick 14

Go ahead. I dare you.
Underestimate this man.
Re: Pick 14
What if Trey Lance or Justin Fields is there ???
Odds are either CB Jaycee Horn or Caleb Farley are there !!!
Lots of mocks have us taking OT Darrisaw or OG Vera-Tucker.
DE Paye, Phillips, Ojulari
LB Parsons and Owusu-Koramoah
DT Barmore
Those are some serious players that could all be realistically there at 14. We need to get a guy that outplays a 1st rd contract and we pay a 2nd big $$$ one to. There are some potential All Pro guys there !
I am hoping that a top QB is there and someone wants to trade up and is willing to throw a 2022 1st rd pick, or add a 2nd this year.
I am happy with any one of those guys.

Re: Pick 14
Given there is almost never a situation where a team has the choice between a truly great LT prospect and a truly great DE prospect, the choice this year will be one of 3 potentially very very good LT/OG prospects at 14 and some good to potentially very good DE prospects there. Overall, I'd say the DE class this year has less quality than the OL class, but both classes are pretty flat overall, meaning a few teams are likely to get lucky and find real quality players at those spots even as late as the 4th round.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:04 amIf given the choice between a great LT at 14 and a great DE, you go great DE every time. You look at teams who have won with non-HOF QBs and all of them have one thing in common: A great pass rush. If you go into a game with a handicap at the most important position on the team, you need an equalizer to bring the other team's QB down to your QB's level, and a great pass rush can do that.CharVike wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 10:35 pm They may like one of those guys better. I don't like picking OL that high either. This isn't even a need pick. It's a must have at this point. But they can fill it with a 3rd or 4th rounder. I only posted that based on stuff I read. That Smith seems interesting. Too Tall Smith. That would PO a few old time Poke fans. But if he can rush the passer why not. 270 is almost to slight for his height.
That being said, if you do not see that great pass rusher on the board at 14, and there is a solid starting LT available, you run to the podium and take that LT.
As for guard, it makes sense to pick up a guard at 14 if you see a guy who you think will be a top guard for years like a Quentin Nelson or Zack Martin. A solid guard can be found in the 3rd and a desperate need should not dictate overpaying.
If you're going strictly on 2020 production, Phillips is the only DE who merits consideration at #14. If he's there and Micah Parsons is there at #14, I hope Spielman goes with Parsons if he's inclined to go defense with that pick. I'd go further and say that if Parsons is there he should be the easy pick if the Vikings want an impact defensive player. No other defensive player could be on the board at #14 that has more immediate or long-term potential than Parsons. He's the Kyle Pitts defensive equivalent and should be an easy choice there unless Spielman wants to trade back.
Regardless of needs at this point the best likely value at #14 is going to be among the Slater, Darrisaw, Vera-Tucker trio. All of them look like they're solid bets to become regular all pros. This is the rare draft where the needs match up well with the best players likely to be available at the pick.

Re: Pick 14
I doubt Vikings will draft defensive tackle at #14 since that is not a need since Pierce is back and Vikings signed Tomlinson from GiantsIIsweet wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 10:52 am What if Trey Lance or Justin Fields is there ???

I agree. And while he's not a DE, Parsons is a great blitzer. It's just so rare to have that amount of size and speed.VikingLord wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 1:12 pm If he's there and Micah Parsons is there at #14, I hope Spielman goes with Parsons if he's inclined to go defense with that pick. If all there is at solid/good at that spot I go LT. You will be able to find a solid starting guard in the 3rd, and I am looking for more from my DE than just solid play.VikingLord wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 1:12 pmGiven there is almost never a situation where a team has the choice between a truly great LT prospect and a truly great DE prospect, the choice this year will be one of 3 potentially very very good LT/OG prospects at 14 and some good to potentially very good DE prospects there. Re: Pick 14
I think you are right. The shame is there are some people that have solid ability but are basically being ignored. Like Tasker and Mills. Obviously somethings didn't go as planned but #### happens. When I say ignored I mean the media. Teams know about them. The guy getting talked about the most is Fields. Who cares about the 40 speed. Who cares if he's the best athlete. I see experts predicting he will go No 3. The 49ers didn't trade up for that. They could have sat still. I wouldn't even draft Fields. Too much BS.

Re: Pick 14
After his pro day performance I think Mills will go in the 2nd. That, however, could push a guy like Mond or Trask down the board a bit. I think if either of them is still there when pick 78 is up Spielman would have to strongly consider going QB.
