That is one stellar line of QB's. The current Vikes dont want to waste any time developing QBs. Or getting decent guards.dead_poet wrote: Shaun Hill, Mike Kafka and Taylor Heinicke
So what would your genius plan be when it comes to "developing" QB's Rick Spielman?? And we drafted 3 offensive lineman that could all possibly swing into guard. As well as Berger and Yankey (who supposedly showed up to offseason workouts much stronger). I just find it odd that you always have something to nitpick about when it comes to Spielman but never have a better "plan" to back it upPurpleKoolaid wrote: That is one stellar line of QB's. Six defenders taken within the first 11 picks have played for Mike Zimmer since he became a defensive coordinator in 2000.
Only a shattered jaw and busted knee kept all six from starting full seasons as rookies.
http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Gaug ... icks062515If Zimmer's own pattern of using top picks means anything, the Vikings should be expecting Waynes to start Week 1 in San Francisco with one caveat -- rookie first-round cornerbacks are coming off a low point in playing time in 2014, when they averaged fewer than 500 snaps per game for the first time since Pro Football Focus began publishing data in 2007. For just the second season in that stretch, not a single first-round corner played more than 1,000 snaps last season due to injuries (Verrett) and some slow starters (Gilbert, Dennard).
Or a decent MLB, CB's, or a WR or two.PurpleKoolaid wrote: That is one stellar line of QB's. The current Vikes dont want to waste any time developing QBs. Or getting decent guards.
I think it will take Waynes about 2 years. He will show flashes this year IMO but won't start to blossom until year 2. Similar to Rhodes.jackal wrote:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... s-a-rookie
I pretty much expected this. It's better for him to learn the defense and come out later than be thrown to
the wolves. Rhodes needed more time to learn, but ended up being a solid player and possibly a pro bowl type
guy for years to come. I think to be fair we need to wait two or three years to judge the pick.
That being said the reason I wanted Danny Shelton is he would have had IMO a much bigger impact and
given us a better run defense and overall D line. Maybe a D line as good as the Willam's wall with Jarad Allen.
Yeah I know there was some divided opinion on Shelton. A lot of retired OL and DL commentators shared my opinion. As for Shelton, I disagree 100%. With Joseph already as our 1 technique, Shelton would get just as much playing time as Waynes will this year. Maybe even less. Maybe in the long term, Shelton would help this defense out, but I would much rather have a solid tandem at CB vs. a big guy in the middle.
But remember when everyone attacked Frazier for not starting Rhodes on day 1????jackal wrote:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... s-a-rookie

Well I think for are more patient now for a few reasons ....But remember when everyone attacked Frazier for not starting Rhodes on day 1????

I'm completely fine with Joseph being there right now. I wouldn't have been fine with just relying on Newman or Robinson on the outside all season. We needed that bookend to Rhodes desperately IMO.
I don't remember that (I remember him getting quite a few snaps early and starting games down the stretch) but if that did happen, to be fair, it probably had a lot to do with that position having players like Cook (the best player that year?), Robinson (the failed slot experiment in his second year), and Sherels (our punt specialist), and Jefferson (how many people do you think even remember his first name?). The competition level is a little bit different now.VikingPaul73 wrote:But remember when everyone attacked Frazier for not starting Rhodes on day 1????
Oh I hear ya man. I think Shelton could be pretty good down the road but when it comes to year 1 impact, neither him or Waynes will light the world on fire. Especially because of the veterans in front of them. Kendricks has a great shot this year because he's the only noteworthy MLB we have.jackal wrote: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjSO21zK5EQ
Not trying argue.. just showing why I felt strongly about his ability.... 1:05-1:07 pulls off two blocks to make tackle...
1:42 while engaged and possibly held .. makes tackle with one hand.... 2:28 has hands ability to scoop a loose ball
3:50 to 3:59 chases a QB through blocks and traffic
34 reps in bench press at combine/earl cambell legs/30 1/2 inch verticle jump
Mike Mayock , "I love this kid, on e the most dominant inside tackles in years!"
