He had a pretty bad patellar tendon tear in 2012 and was bad last year. You'd be gambling on his upside and hope that he'd get better with more rehab/rest (even though he was declared "100%), which at 30 and coming off a major injury, would be quite a gamble.

The NY Daily News reports free agent CB Alterraun Verner "isn't planning any visits," and intends to sign with a team "shortly after the market opens" on Tuesday.

I think this is very telling statement. Not making any visits and will sign quickly.

1.His old position coach is now a college coach (so out of equasion)
2.His defensive coordinator (Jerry Gray) is now a position coach with the Vikings
3.The Vikes need him badly and can afford the 10 million.
4.He comes in and starts immediately opposite another great up and coming young CB in Rhodes

All just comes together nicely in my opinion

$10MM a year is pretty rich especially when its being reported Byrd wants $9MM. I'd take Byrd to be honest.

I agree. I think $10 million/year is too much for someone that's arguably not even at top-10 corner. I think it likely comes down to the Vikes, Washington or the Jets, though (I have a hard time thinking the Rams will be that stupid with their limited cap and a world of problems on the offensive line). But I wouldn't pay Byrd $9 million/year either.

According to PFF, from Weeks 12-14, he allowed 199 yards, a touchdown, and a 107.1 QB rating with just one pass defensed.
AKA a brilliant stretch by Chris Cook that would have Vikings fans on here being like "Dude, Cook rocks! We should keep him".

:( I don't think Verner is Minnesota bound.
Verner: "I feel more compelled to go to a team that I think can win.. I haven't had that experience for the past four years in Tennessee"

I would almost guarantee it after this quote. Oh Well. I want Walter Thurmond III more anyway and have not seen any noise on him which is surprising.

He's got some baggage (4-game suspension) and injury concerns (severe broken leg and complications that kept him to just 8 games in two seasons prior to this one). This background reminds me a bit of Cook, to be honest. Provided he's over everything, he'd be an upgrade (most would be, I suppose).

Pretty clear from Alterraun Verner's interview w/ @AdamSchein on @MadDogRadio that the #Jets would be his #1 choice.

Byrd? Wtf, we are talking CB's. And Verner is one of the best, INSTANTLY improving our team. And hes young. But at least we are filling up the ST roster and overpaying DE's YAY. Robison and Griffen are average DE's making TOP DE money. Rickie is digging his own grave. I sure hope he knows what he is doing in the draft. Resigning Dean and Jasper just doesn't do it for me.

No, we're talking about free agents. Perhaps we can take a few steps back from the ledge considering free agency hasn't even started yet, or is that too rash?

I don't know if this really means much though. I mean it was just reported that Verner's "#1 choice" would be the Jets. To be honest, the Jets aren't going anywhere in my opinion. I don't think Geno is good at all, they have major question marks at WR and RB, their defensive backfield is depleted, and there isn't much to talk about at LB.

I also believe that having Mike Zimmer as a head coach will really intrigued players to come here. Especially defensive guys. The Jets do scare me because they have a lot of cap space now but I still feel we are very much in the running.

Griffen is making top 10 money. Robison is making close to the 20th most in the league. You think top 20 is "top" money.

Jared Allen made 17 mil last year. Robison and Griffen don't even combined for that amount. I doubt we'll have to worry too much about how much money we have invested at DE.

and as was just said, free agency hasn't even started yet. Calm yourself down.

Profootballtalk reports free agent Vontae Davis is expected to sign a contract on Tuesday, but "not with the Colts."

Reporter Mike Florio does allow that it's "not over yet, though." Either way, it directly contradicts CBS' Sunday report that Davis was "nearing a deal" with the Colts, and that there was "every expectation" an accord would be hammered out by Monday. One of the market's top free agents, Davis should have a new deal/home by tomorrow evening.
This came out of nowhere. Maybe this could be us?? Who knows
