On that last play, the Vikings ended up with 5 secondary guys on the left side of the defense, 2 on the right. You can tell that Greenway also knew they were screwed before the ball was snapped, but he didn't fall back to cover the TE, just did a shallow zone drop, which was most likely his zone assignment.

Henderson and Sanford were both up on the line threatening blitz, but both immediately broke back to the left side of the field. Harrison Smith looks like he had his hands full, as he was directing Sanford and Robinson on what to do as the ball was snapped, and was unaware of the right side of the field and never able to break on the play.

Bad defensive call, combined with confusion on the D and a less than stellar assemblage of secondary talent. The Vikings didn't have a chance.

Frazier has horrible clock management. I went to the game in 2011 where we head a lead vs TB and they were driving down the field with ease and we had all 3 timeouts. WE CALLED ZERO TIMEOUTS
Pull yr 84 jerseys out.

When will Frazier learn that the prevent D DOES NOT WORK. You have to take some chances and try to pressure the QB. Atleast if they burn you for a TD you get time to score without the opposing team running off too much clock. Everytime we run the prevent, the opposing team eats us alive with the short passes and eventually scores a TD in the redzone.

Sad really. We always talk about Ponder not showing enough progression. Looks like we have coach who hasn't progressed either. For 3 years in a row now we've had to deal with losses because Frazier thinks that cover 2 prevent will work in the last minute of the 4th.

Did you read the article? Sounds like this was anything but the typical "cover-2 prevent" we usually do, in fact that's the whole point. It seems like multiple players didn't know what to do even! Although the outcome is still the same, a bad coaches call hehe.

That last play where the Bears scored looked like a cover 2 to me. Because I think Harrison Smith was suppose to be back there to help Chris Cook but got there late. But yeah you're right, whatever defense they were in still didn't work. :wallbang:

ofc its a bad coaches call. Plus any decent coach would have seen that confusion and called a timeout. You don't take the chance of them going ahead by 1 point with 10 seconds left just because you don't want to stop the clock with a timeout. Fraizer is a complete idiot when it comes to stuff like that.

It's a shame the Vikings couldn't get the win but I had a great time at Soldier field anyway and they clearly played hard. I have to add that, once again, I was really impressed with the Bears fans. When I go to Soldier Field decked out in Vikings wear, they're always nice. They give me a hard time in a friendly, fun way but they're never malicious. It's a classy, knowledgeable fan base and a place where fans of the opposing team don't have to feel nervous or uncomfortable about going out to support their team. From what I understand, there are places in the NFL where that's not the case.

Anyway, that was a tough loss but a fun game. :)

For those interested, there's an article at the Strib site about the Vikings defensive call on that final Bears TD. I actually wish it went into more detail but it's still worth reading:

You've sat through some brutal ones at Soldier Field so I'm glad this time around it was a very close game. And even though you got wet, at least there wasn't a weather delay :v):

This was a egregious error. SOMEBODY should've recognized this and called a timeout. Heck, a couple of players noticed this before the snap. Nobody took it upon themselves to get this taken care of. I put this on Williams, even though Frazier has apparently said it wasn't a bad play call?

LOL!

Thanks, it really was a fun game and watching a game like that, especially in person, seems to help me keep things in perspective. I think some of that comes from being surrounded by the opposing teams fans. When you're watching a game at home, it gets really easy to focus on all the things your team isn't doing, all the frustrating aspects of the game, and to overlook the plays they're making and the good things they're doing. When you're watching in the opposing team's stadium, the reactions of most people around you are often the opposite of your own and it reinforces the things your team is doing well.

Anyway, it was fun. my friend took some cool pictures and I'll post a few of them here.

My advice, Jim, is to stay away from Philly if you want to wear the gear. Rough, rough sports town. There's even a jail at the stadium.

I've heard that Philly and several other NFL cities in the northeast can be rough places for fans of other franchises to show up in support of their team. It's one of the reasons I always feel good about the way most people here behave at Bears games.
