Being a Buckeye state resident I am very disappointed in the release of Toine , he was one of my alltime favorite Vikings and I have watched many of the best ones at his position . Goodbye 26 I have a feeling we will regret not being able to work something out that kept you in Purple , you were a TRUE professional and that is extremely rare in this day of memememememe players .

That's why I'm curious about Wiederer's source. I smell spin.

I'd love to know who Wiederer's source was for this story but if the story is accurate and Winfield was blindsided and coldly released than shame on Spielman. That's no way to treat a player like Winfield and the Wilfs and the Vikings as an organization should have learned from the awkward, unceremonious way Mike Tice was fired that there is a right and a wrong way to go about these things.
Hopefully, Wiederer's "NFL Source" (that expression is sure getting tiresome) is wrong about the way things went down. I wonder if the source was Winfield's agent. Perhaps Winfield himself?
Winfield is certainly a VIkings player I'm going to miss. i loved everything about the way he played and the way he handled himself. The guy is a class act and a terrific football player.
Man, I leave the country for a few days and I check back in and suddenly we are a very different team without PH and AW. I am perfectly fine with the first move, and a bit baffled by the second. I get the business angle and all, but this doesn´t jibe with the way they had always treated Antoine. I feel like we aren´t privy to some of the most important details here.
Maybe they are trying to shave the fat in order to make some moves in FA. I would guess that they´ll acquire some secondary Free Agents once the market has settled a bit and it´s advantageous for the Vikings to make reasonable signings. This is a process, and we are certainly far from finished with additions and subtractions from the team.

I don't blame you. There's always spin these days, what with the bureaucratic modus operandi of the NFL and the exploitative sports media.
We'll probably have to wait for the smoke to clear on this before we really know what happened and how it happened. Maybe we'll never know for sure.

I guess Kevin Williams will be next. He's getting old too.

So... do you guys think there is a possibility of Winfield coming back?

Slim chance after the way this reportedly went down. He'll get a 1-2 year offer from a contender. I'm holding onto a glimmer of hope though.

OR even Jared Allen.
The question is "do we have a chance to make a run at the SB next year ?"
When I read "Winfield was cut even if we don't have salary-cap issues",
I think some people didn't understand we went from the "spend it or loose it"
rule to the rollover rule.
If we are in good shape regarding the cap, it's because we are carrying ~9 $M from last year.
Releasing players now is money you can invest later.
Even if Winfield and Allen are 2 of my favorite players, if they don't want to restructure...
What's the point of keeping Allen one year (14.5 M), to see him leave at the end of the year as a FA,
to end up the season 10-6 instead of 8-8, knowing the money can be use to re-sign both Griffen and Robison ?
Now, if we think we can win it all, it's another story.

It's a process, ultimately we have to clean out all of these guys, I suspect kwill, possibly allen will be cut next year. Allen it probably depends on if they feel Everson is ready to take over or not. Then Peterson will be 29 and all the young guys maturing and we can make a run at the superbowl for the next 5-8 years.

Allen will be the first.
Then Kevin Williams.
Then Robison and Greenway will be next to fade off into the sunset.
Then Peterson.

Understand the distraught state, I adore WInfield myself but I guess this just goes to show that there's no room for sentiment in football. The guy was requesting too much dough at such a late stage in his career. I fully expect him to make a return at a reduced rate, it won't be right to see Antoine elsewhere after such a brilliant tenure.

Yep. Every player on this roster will fade off into the sunset at some point.

Many examples around the league of other teams doing the same thing!

Has Revis officially been traded?
