I don't know that much about him but from what I've read, it sounds like he could be an upgrade over most of the CBs they have on the roster. Maybe he's not a #2 corner but as far as I can tell, he played pretty well for Miami last year. He seems like a player who could do more than contribute on special teams. Heck, he had three INTs last season. That's two more than any CB on the Vikings roster had! In fact, Sherels and Prater were the only Vikings CBs to even come with a pick last year.dead_poet wrote: Let's hope this is for special teams. Carroll has no place as a #2 CB.
"An upgrade over most of the CBs on the roster" is not a ringing endorsement. Asher Allen or Benny Sapp might be able to claim that title too.Mothman wrote:I don't know that much about him but from what I've read, it sounds like he could be an upgrade over most of the CBs they have on the roster. I don't think they should just target him as a #2 and settle but I seriously doubt that's what they're doing anyway. I realize saying he'd be an upgrade over most of the CBs on the roster isn't a ringing endorsement but that's sort of the point. They need more help in the secondary than a new #2 corner. It would be nice to see them improve the depth chart, not just the starters and Carroll sounds like a player capable of playing more than just a special teams role. If he can help the Vikes get better, I'm all for it.dead_poet wrote: "An upgrade over most of the CBs on the roster" is not a ringing endorsement. Knee, rib and concussion and penalty history with Carroll. Ranked #52 in PFF corner rankings (not that they matter).
I'm all about competition, but IMO we need to be aiming higher.
So am I, but I've seen him play a bit. I don't think he's necessarily better than Sherels. I guess it boils down to the fact that I see him as being, essentially, a guy we already have. I want a measurable upgrade. There are a lot of options that don't include top-tier guys like Talib (Browner, Munnerlyn, Brown, Tillman, Terrell Thomas, Blackmon, Cason). Let's just say I'm not against the move but I'd want/expect more quality to start opposite Rhodes.Mothman wrote: I don't think they should just target him as a #2 and settle but I seriously doubt that's what they're doing anyway. @AdrianPeterson on Twitter@MikeVick would intently make the vikings a playoff team!
With all due respect to AD: no thanks. I doubt Vick would make the Vikings a playoff team and I certainly don't want to be asked to root for him. AD clearly wants to win and that's understandable but Vick is available for a reason and it's not because he's the missing piece to a Super Bowl run.dead_poet wrote:Well, Peterson has cast his vote (again?).
