Surratt was voted the second best Defender in the ACC. Not so sure there were better players available.
As it has been mentioned, Jabril Cox. A QB turned linebacker that is still learning to play LB and for intents and purposes is a project that will probably be moved to safety or play special teams is not what you take with a 3rd round pick.
Exactly. Just learning to play Linebacker and already a star at it. Imagine him getting experience and NFL coaching.

2020 STATISTICS

—11 starts

—Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year

—Unanimous All-American

—Team captain

NOTES

—2019 first-team All-American.

—25 career starts.
OL of the year sounds good.
Davis plays with natural knee bend, mirrors well and shows excellent balance in pass protection. He's an above-average run-blocker who has a good feel for angles, moves defenders and is effective combination blocking up to the second level. -- Steve Muench

Yeah as a third WR just in case a first and second WR goes down.

Except for the LB, this draft feels like a breath of fresh air.

Looking deeper at this guy's progression I can see what the Vikings liked about Chazz Surratt. That said I still think the pick is a bit of a head scratcher. Maybe I am totally wrong and other teams were also interested, but I keep thinking he could have been drafted in the 4th. I would say he is certainly at minimum a 2 year project.

I like the rest of the 3rd round picks. Love the OL pick. If three years from now the only starters from this draft are Darrisaw and Davis it will in my mind have been a good draft.

Yes they are brothers. I wonder if they would use a late pick on him if he's available or perhaps, hope he gets undrafted and try the updrafted free agent route. Any idea if he's good enough to be drafted?

Also looking at some of the grades on the Vikings picks, all the players got good grades (mostly B's and I think Jones got a B+). And 1 site had a overall grade of a A-. I know most don't like the Surratt pick but if it was bad, wouldn't people grade the pick, at least a C? It seems most are intrigued to see what Zimmer can do with him.

I know most are scratching heads on the Surratt pick, but I hope the only debate is "when" we took him, not "why".

Having a player transition from O to D and in his first full year playing D ends up at a "top of the conference" level, well, THAT guy can play football. Who knows, when combined with our coaching staff (could be good, could be bad), if he'll turn into a productive starter. But he can play the game, and he was well worth drafting IMO.
