Year of the Purple Reign
I was rapping SKOL with someone before the Monday game. I told him my prediction that this year we'd take division, make it through one playoff game, and next year take the superbowl at our stadium. He said, this year we'll take it, and next year defend it in our stadium. That shook me up and changed my perspective. I'm on board with that idea...

Re: Year of the Purple Reign
Figured I'd post here, not that it's necessarily related but kind of is?
On Monday night I heard the announcers call the defense "Purple Reign" several times. I know it's a reference to the Prince song (RIP), but where did the defense get the name from?

Sounded like something Gruden "came up with"/heard/latched on to. I've also seen "Zim Reapers", which is pretty cool.akvikingsfan wrote:Figured I'd post here, not that it's necessarily related but kind of is?

“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.” --- Bill Shankly

He latched onto it. I'm not sure who came up with it but it's been around a for a little while. I've seen Pioneer Press writer Brian Murphy use it and I'm pretty sure I've heard Paul Allen use it. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the source as it pertains to the Vikes.dead_poet wrote: Sounded like something Gruden "came up with"/heard/latched on to. It's a borrowed phrase that I believe has been applied to the Washington Huskies defense in the past.

It belongs in MN, since the ultimate origin was Prince.Mothman wrote: He latched onto it. I'm not sure who came up with it but it's been around a for a little while. Re: Year of the Purple Reign
It's not bad. I can live with Purple Reign as the moniker for this D.

I'd rather it was something else but then, I don't care for the Prince song either.fiestavike wrote:It's not bad. I can live with Purple Reign as the moniker for this D.

Blasphemer!
Don't tell me you dislike the Replacments, Hüsker Dü and Bob Dylan too.
