2014 Vikings Draft Discussion

I finally watched Teddy's pro day earlier today and it didn't seem nearly as bad as people made it out to be. He only missed on deep balls, but those can be improved upon if you already have the arm strength, which Teddy does. His short to medium throws were on point and I don't mind the duck throws because they were accurate. He still had a couple nice deep balls. Some time with Norv will make this guy what he should be. I hope he falls, because the Vikings could make this guy into a legit starter in the NFL.

Bortles is just the fad atm. Teddy has always been the #1. Wasn't Carr #1 at one time too, by the experts? By drafy day Murray may be the #1, torn acl and all. Ive also been hearing more talk of JFB coming to MN and that scares me.

I would disagree that he "only missed on deep balls". He looked like a very average to below average QB to me throwing in his shorts with no pressure throwing to his receivers on his scripted routes. I hope the Vikes stay far away from him. Just my opinion.

Ignore the game tape that showed Bridgewater can make all the throws even with pressure and rely entirely on the pro-day where he struggled? Come on now.....

Nah, bro. The video I saw was a different angle taken from an observer that shows most (maybe all?) of his throws. I only watched a bit of the one you posted, but it was analysts nitpicking certain passes.

A few of his early passes were a bit wobbly, but they were accurate. His short to medium throws were accurate. Some of his deep throws were on point. Most of them weren't, however. But he did have the arm strength. The ball doesn't "explode" out of his hands, but they definitely get the distance they need. What's most to like about him is his intangibles, which aren't evident during pro days.. Most specifically is football/quarterback savvy. Mind and accuracy trumps size and arm strength every single time. If he can read defenses, which he can, he will be successful in the NFL. With him, he will struggle early, I believe, but once he begins to learn more nuances of what he's seeing on the field, he'll become very good. It just might take some time.

I also agree that a quarterback should still look very impressive against air, if he aspires to be an NFL quarterback, but I always rely on gametape and don't care all that much about pro days. If Teddy was so-so on film then I'd say no way, but he's very good and very efficient when you slip on his game films.

I do not think that anyone is saying to ignore the game tapes but for someone that has been projected as the #1 player drafted, his pro day left a whole lot to be desired.
Look at Vince Young's stats and accomplishments at the college level and JaMarcus Russel's college career. That knife cuts both ways. To me physically he looks pretty "scrawny" and has a very suspect arm. Just my opinion but I am not very impressed and would much rather see the Vikes take a solid LB or CB with their first selection and then get Murray or Garoppolo in the 2nd or third round.

Yeah I'm not a big Fales fan. However, I'm starting to like Derek Carr more and more. He was on fire at his pro day and showed great accuracy. NFL Network said that they believe Carr is the most polished pocket passer in the draft this year.
