Everybody is ripping Ponder's nuts off for the 3 INTS but...

Post by Hunter Morrow »

Didn't Peterson fumble at a crucial part of the game? About 13 minutes left in the 4th quarter, he put it on the ground and didn't recover it.

27-24, Detroit gets it on the 39 yard line and puts it in the end zone.
That was pretty much the game right there. I mean, we were down by 3 with a kicker who already made a 53 yarder in that game.

I know the line was bumbling around and Ponder kind of biffed the hand off, but that happens a lot.
Peterson either doesn't take the hand off right or he gets it stripped. These handoff issues and fumble issues have been a problem
with him for years now. Everyone I know is so quick to scapegoat the quarterback, who is admittedly awful, but could somebody get
Ahman Green's stickum for Peterson, please?

No. There is a reason that Peterson is listed with 0 fumbles for that game in the stats. That fumble was not on him.

Ponder had his foot stepped on by the guard and slammed the ball into AD's crotch...so no, that was on dumb luck. Maybe the line but it was credited to Ponder...I hate Ponder so I'd blame him, put the damn ball in his gut...but others might give him credit for not throwing an INT on the play so there's that.

Ponder was the last guy to officially possess the ball so he gets credited with the fumble. Rules is rules. Same thing happened in the '09 NFCCG. Favre got credited with a fumble when he and AD biffed a hand off.

But it's not JUST the 3 INT's that have everyone wanting to rip his nuts off, how he played in most of his previous 26 starts plays a large role in the desire to castrate now xD.

Ponder looked like quite the dork on that stumble, but if we're being honest...AP still should have held onto that. It's Ponder's fault, but he still tossed it right into his gut.

Let's throw a little blame in there for Fusco (or was it Sullivan?) for tripping Ponder in the first place. There's plenty of blame to go around! :)

I think it was just bad luck too. AD could have handled it...but he was looking straight ahead to the line and it was a bang bang situation.

So far, the ball is not bouncing our way. The two slant passes that went off Simpson's hands right to defenders and Ponder's arm getting hit by Suh as he's trying to throw it OB, again right into the arms of the defense. We got one back on the Henderson pick, but like it or not that kind of luck is huge in these games. Hopefully we fare better in that respect tomorrow and onward.

I consider that turnover a casualty of war. Its the kind of botch that happens occasionally, and I really don't blame either Ponder or AD for it. The QB got his foot tangled up with a blocking lineman and stumbled.

This. x 1000.

Are we really trying to find even more things with which we can apply blame? Wasn't there enough easily placed blame in that game to sate everyone's appetite?

And the other difference is Adrian's contributions to this game FFFAAAAAAAARRRRRRR outweighed that one fumble. Whereas Ponder's contributions were pretty limited and his detriments were through the roof. One cannot blame Ponder enough for this loss and likely any other losses this team takes.
I'm glad you're maintaining an unbiased attitude about it. ;)

Jeffbleedspurple wrote: Peterson has had a total of 6 fumbles in the past 3 seasons, I would hardly call that a problem and the fumbled hand off I do believe Ponder was trying to rip Peterson's nuts off by trying to force the ball to AP's sacks, hardly a good exchange. Personally there is not one player on this team more deserving to make a mistake or 2 than Peterson, the man carried this team to the playoffs last season, Ponder is deserving to have his nuts ripped off.
No surprise that would cause a fumble, those nuts of steel of peterson's probably propelled the ball like you were toe kicking it with a running start.

Ponder was slow getting his feet out of the way. Poor Footwork on Ponder's part was the start of the fumble. Part ponder Part AD.

LOL Purple Jesus...thats one scary comparison.
Ponder needs more help than is possible to become an NFL top 20 passer,
however Sand Cassel isnt the answer either...Start MB-T if we go 0-3.
