poll, is it time for him to be fired? He did a mediocre job last year and some of the playcalling today was just baffling. not to mention there is ZERO creativity.

Re: Bill Musgrave
If you go back a few years, the exact same things were said about Bevell. Maybe the OC needs a change, again, but if the Vikings continue to struggle the changes need to start a little higher on the food chain.

Re: Bill Musgrave
I voted for the middle option. But honestly, this is the least of the Vikes' problems. Their entire team has played the entire pre-season and first regular season game like they need anti-depression meds. That's more on the head coach than the OC.Orion wrote:poll, is it time for him to be fired? Re: Bill Musgrave
You forgot the option 'the entire Vikings staff' fired. Williams looked as bad as Musgrave today. Musgrave has to open up the offense a little. We saw a TD when he did today. He cant wait till the end of the game. And yeah, he is limited by his BoyBlunder QB.
Re: Bill Musgrave
if anything would ponder or musgrave go first?

Re: Bill Musgrave
Ponder. No question he's limiting Musgrave more than Musgrave is limiting him. If you give a race car driver a lemon is it his fault? He might be a terrible driver but can you be sure? Ponder isn't going to be any better no matter who the OC is or what they run.
I'm definitely sick of this stupid version of the west coast though. Shrinking the field, horizontally as well as vertically, valuing blockers over targets for the QB, timing routes with guys like TJoke and Ponder with horrible accuracy. Get someone in here who can adapt and doesn't run "the system".
Biggest reason the guy was hired was probably keeping a similar offense. Yippy, the only offensive success we've had is when Favre told them to sit down, or AD goes crazy.

Re: Bill Musgrave
If things continue in the same vein as today's game, this will be Frazier's last year as head coach, and Musgrave will go with him. Ponder will be back next season, if only as a backup. Unless the new head coach wants nothing to do with him and can convince the front office to lose him.Orion wrote:if anything would ponder or musgrave go first?
Re: Bill Musgrave
Only so much you can do with a bum QB. Keep him, fire him, the outcome will be the same. Vikings first problem starts with noodle arm, their second problem is noodle arms QB coach. He has the receivers, he has the best hb, and a decent line, but the QB simply sucks.

Re: Bill Musgrave
Our current modified WCO and Cover 2 stuff is SO OUTMODED. Multiple tight end and fullback sets, rushing 40 times a game. Limiting the playbook because
the QB can't get it. That is caveman crap and the only reason we're getting away with it is because Adrian Peterson is the best RB of the decade.
This is the Quarterback Era.
Since Culpepper went down, what year were we meant to win the Super Bowl? When could we have done it? Right, when we had a 4500 yard passing QB.
Not this Big 10 and Change crap. I'd like to see something approaching a contemporary offensive scheme from this team with a QB who isn't one of the worst in the league.
Right now its like watching Barry Sanders with Spurgeon Wynn out there sometimes.

Maybe Detroit was trying to keep him from rolling out to the right? The scouting report was there. Or crashing the line that way or something? Maybe genius Musgrave saw something?80 PurplePride 84 wrote:I'm baffled as to why he kept calling roll outs to the left for a right handed QB?

Re: Bill Musgrave
My only real gripes about the way this offense is handled are two things:
1. When Peterson has trouble getting running room he is done. They keep attempting to run him...but how they involve him in the offense is very unimaginative IMO. While I don't expect him to Marshal Faulk or Reggie Bush out of the backfield, it;s hard to argue against AD being the best athlete on the field...so, it's particularly baffling as why there are not more plays designed for him like there was for Bush yesterday. The lack of this element contributes latgely to the predictability factor of the offense. It's cool to say we're gonna run it right at you and then have the ability to do it. But it's not sustainable and compromises the whole offense when they rely sooo heaviliy on tht unique thing. AD's not stupid....he trained himself to stop fumbling, he can learn to be a functional weapon in the passing game.
2. The aforementioned predictability. The run run pass thing. I see very creative plays and formations but it just seems there is difficulty getting the defense on it's heels and keeping them guessing. Knowing when specific plays are good or great calls. I don't know if that is something that can be developed this late in someone's career....or if it's as simple as I'm making it out to be. It just seems like some people have a knack for that kind of intution. Like a LB or safety who just instinctively understands where the play is going. I think Musgrave has a great capacity and a sharp sharp mind...I don't trust his 6th sense.

I don't even think he has to learn it. He's demonstrated that he can be a functional weapon in the passing game. It's up to Musgrave to do what you're suggesting and call plays that will get the ball in his best player's hands without just handing it to him.The Breeze wrote:My only real gripes about the way this offense is handled are two things:

Fire this #### bum. I have been fed up with his play calling since opening day against San Diego in 2011.

Kinda leads you to believe maybe Bevell wasn't the problem (T-Jack). Makes you wonder if Musgrave isn't the problem either. You see where I'm going with this.Purplemania wrote: Isn't it funny that Linehan use to be our OC and we called him unimaginitive, and the same about Bevell who has that Seahawks offense flying (other than last Sunday vs Carolina)?
