Yep. Gerhart is a dime a dozen back. We could plug in any number of guys and get the same out of them. He brings nothing in the passing game. He's a solid power back, solid blocker. Banyard was shifty, could make guys miss. But they stick with these frustrating average guys they can "trust". Like Childress used to. And "safe" coordinators across the league.
We need a new offensive coaching staff. Frazier is good enough to hold his own, heck even Williams seems competent. But the offense is a joke. And has been for some time. Can't believe they signed this clown to replace Bevell/Childress. They wanted to continue the same type of offense to make the transition easier, and they're paying for it. Anyone could get this out of AD, we need someone who can get more out of the offense as a whole.

I didn't see anything from Zach Line this preseason that leads me to believe keeping him and cutting Gerhart would make sense. I think Gerhart's a good player. He may not give the team anything special but I don't think Banyard, Asiata or Line do either. Gerhart's experienced and he's usually reliable. That fumble-crazy sequence against SF last year was an atypical performance.
I've been looking over the cuts and I can't say any of them really surprised me. I'd say Tyrone Mckenzie is the closest thing to a surprise, just because he was a very good ST player for the Vikes last season.
I assume several of the "bubble" players will end up on the team's practice squad by the end of today. I wonder if anybody who made the roster will be cut in favor of a player released by another team.
The return of Felton and Love will mean more moves and it will be interesting to see what happens with Christian Ballard.
I am so glad we got rid of Stephon Burton and Brandon Burton. They sucked. Despite having a good pre-season, I thought that Stephon Burton had his chance to prove himself during the previous seasons. Besides being the 5th WR is never where you want to be because you will have to fight for a roster spot every season.
The one cut that disappointed me was Bobby Felder. He should have beat Sherels, but the fact that his father died I think coaches feel sorry for him and he had one breakout game against some 3rd and 4th stringers. Bobby Felder has been holding is own most of the time against 1st and 2nd stringers all preseason. I hope Felder goes to a team that appreciates a good CB when they have one. Our coaches are too sympathetic to know when they have better players on the team because they put personal feelings into their decision and keep players even when they're mediocre. You know damn well Sherels will not be able to hang with the lights of Aaron Rodgers, Cutler, Stafford, and the rest of the starting QBs in this league. They will pass all over him. And before someone says special teams, im sure we could have found a good replacement.

Every player that got released yesterday has a backstory that would make one feel bad they didn't make the cut, and that's the nature of the NFL. Sherels father passing away has nothing to do with why he is or isn't on the roster.

I'm guessing Felder's injury had something to do with him being let go. He had a great preseason, but unfortunately he had a fairly significant injury that may have cost him his job.

I guess I'm a little surprised they kept all 3 qbs. To me that says they want to develop MBT. I have't had a chance to see him play much, so I really don't know

All in all I'm thoroughly sick of the off-season. I'm ready for them to kick the crap out of Detroit now.
And consequently that means I'm ready to kick the crap out of VMB @ Pick 4 also.

Oh, I get it. It just speaks to a failure to find and develop better depth at the position. If Webb's their best option that means they failed to find or develop a better option and that's not good.
Excellent news. I called this move happening as soon as I saw Chicago release him. Webb isn't a starter but he is a hell of a lot better than anyone else we have for depth purposes.

With the recent state of the Bears' offensive line, are you going to tell me that they had better backup options at OT than the Vikings? If so, that's incredibly sad for the Vikings' organization.
Obviously he wasn't earning starters money in Chi-town....so they didn't have the option to use him as a sub. I think they had other issues with him that went beyond performance.
Maybe, a change of scenery will help....but I'm dubious that this move makes us better.
