Loved both of those players and both are right up there with me. But I might have to top em all off with Steve Jordon.dead_poet wrote:Recently, it'd be Kleinsasser. Robert Smith might be up there.

A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

Leroy Hoard was awesome! You needed one yard and he'd get you 4. You needed 10 yards and he'd get you 4. Model of consistencyVike Fan 4 Life wrote: Offensively, I always liked leroy hoard.

Robert Smith is a star to me so I didn't put him on my list.

(Darrin nelson and Sammy white) or (henry Thomas and Anthony carter) too many underrated players imo.

You're right. Maybe we should start compiling this list during the off season until training camp startshibbingviking wrote:(Darrin nelson and Sammy white) or (henry Thomas and Anthony carter) too many underrated players imo.

I liked FB Sammie Johnson a lot in the 70s. He had one big game against the Rams (I think) and was one of those north-south runners that simply ran through people. I also liked WR Jim Lash, but I can't even think why. TE Joe Senser would have been a star if he didn't blow out his knee.
On defense, it's OLB Fred McNeill. Again, couldn't tell you why. Always liked Bobby Bryant, the DB who return Tom Dempsey's blocked FG attempt 90 yards for a TD against the Rams in the '76 playoffs -- and returned a Staubach INT 63 yards in the '73 NFC Championship Game.

Damn it, this is hard. I always attach to the players on this team and find myself frustrated when they leave.
Anyway, here are a few guys I enjoyed watching that were not 'stars':
Offense: Tarvaris Jackson (my boy!) Ciatrick Fason, Mewelde Moore, Jermaine Wiggins, Visanthe Shiancoe, Kelly Campbell, Marcus Robinson, Koren Robinson.
Defense: Dwight Smith, Brian Williams, Frank Walker, Dontarious Thomas (really, really, really wished he had panned out for us), Spencer Johnson, Greg Blue, Tank Williams, Lance Johnstone.

A Randy Moss fan for life. A Kevin Williams fan for life.

I love me some Bobby Wade! There are a lot of good guys being mentioned. I actually considered a few of them: Wade, M. Moore, Shank, Kleinsasser, Griffith...even Hovan. I used to love him and his fueds with Favre. lol. Oh, I liked Jerry Ball, too. I'll never forget that name or that big body!JEC334 wrote:Bobby Wade and Ben Leber.

But, I had to pick Jackson and Ponder. I'm sure you understand.

Six Pro Bowls, huh? Sounds star-ish to me. Isn't his name and number up in the Dome? I'm not exactly sure, but I thought it was. I could be crazy, though.808vikingsfan wrote: Browner made it to SIX pro bowls. I'd consider him a big star. Same with AC.
A security guard randomly gave me Browner's autograph last year. I guess he felt I was worthy of his extra autograph.

Re: Two most favorite none star Vikings player?
Yes Browner was a beast. He had great hands instinct and speed. On Madden football for the Sega genisus I used to stay in nickel formation for punt returns because his stats were so beastly he would return the kick for a TD most times. Allot of jaws dropped when Green released him including mine.
Re: Two most favorite none star Vikings player?
I remember them being more like #1 and #1A (actually, I don't even recall the term #1 receiver being used back then) but yes, White spent most of his Vikings career lined up opposite Rashad. He was a fast, impressive receiver, capable of making some truly spectacular catches.Jeffbleedspurple wrote:Now there are 2 names that have always stuck in my mind for some reason. Sammie Johnson and Sammy White. Was Sammy White like the #2 WR lined up opposite of Ahamad Rashad?

Re: Two most favorite none star Vikings player?
When I was a kid I used to pretend I was Sammy White making diving and leaping catches for first downs and TDs when we would play catch in the backyard. Kind of funny neither one of us wanted a pass to hit us on the #s but just in range to leap for it or dive for it. Good times.Mothman wrote: I remember them being more like #1 and #1A (actually, I don't even recall the term #1 receiver being used back then) but yes, White spent most of his Vikings career lined up opposite Rashad.
