Re: Jerome Simpson Interview
me too. he has a lot to prove. he could be a real contributor on the offense.
sounds like he had some kind of nerve problem in his leg.

Re: Jerome Simpson Interview
I think he also has some kind of nerve problem in his head....he is also the frailest human being I've ever seen on the field. He took two solid hits all year and the way he acted you'd think he was going to keel over and die.
But it was fun seeing him come down with Ponder's attempt at throwing the ball away. And had another solid play. Should be fun to watch as long as he's healthy and our buffoon of a QB can get him the ball. (no more excuses for either of them...thank god)

that might be true for a lot of players
Re: Jerome Simpson Interview
Demi is right. Simpson's biggest problems are in his head. Well, that and being hurt most of last season.
Despite what some have said, Simpson is wickedly fast (especially his sustained speed) and can really jump. I'd love to see the guy start running smarter routes, though. Until he does, he's not going to be as effective as he should be.

Re: Jerome Simpson Interview
i'd like to see him and Ponder develop some sick red zone chemistry next season. and see if he can learn some technique stuff from Jennings.
dunno what to do about his head.

Who knows? Just maybe a polished receiver like Jennings will have a positive influence on Simpson. The Breeze wrote:i'd like to see him and Ponder develop some sick red zone chemistry next season. and see if he can learn some technique stuff from Jennings.

One thing I can't figure about the Vikings passing game is that Simpson isn't an elite WR by a long shot but he is truly great at one thing - jumping. His leaping ability is second to none. Why not more jump balls to him?
I remember when Randy Moss told Culpepper that when in doubt about Moss being covered, then just throw the ball up and Randy would jump for it. Why don't the Vikings do that more often with Simpson? Toss an end zone pass where Simpson leaps over the defender's head to catch it. Seems like that would be a good way to utilize Simpson's best skill.

Re: Jerome Simpson Interview
i agree. i would suspect the answer is more about simpson not having full use of his leg than anything else. from the interview it just sounded that he never felt healthy until the final 3 games or so. don't want to make excuses for any of them though.losperros wrote: Who knows? i also wonder why the last play of the superbowl wasn't a jump ball to moss rather than crabtree.
Re: Jerome Simpson Interview
A jump ball to Simpson seems like a pretty distant second to one thrown Rudolph's way.

Great catch by Rudolph. But it doesn't negate the importance of being able to jump for a catch either. It's better to have both possibilities. Watch the following...marty264 wrote:A jump ball to Simpson seems like a pretty distant second to one thrown Rudolph's way.

Re: Jerome Simpson Interview
Awesome play and funny celebration thrust. Cool how Ponder reacted too. I'm not holding my breath on Simpson though. I really hope we bring in some young talent that can learn from professor Jennings.losperros wrote: Great catch by Rudolph. Re: Jerome Simpson Interview
The difference between Moss and Simpson is that Moss was a possession WR. So yes it was easy for Moss to just jump up and catch. Simpson doesn't have the best hands by a long shot. His best attribute when he DOES catch the ball is his speed. But no Simpson isn't a possession WR, now Michael Jenkins was a possession WR but he was too slow. Simpson is just fast.

Alligator Arms Randy? You've got to be ****ing kidding. Moss was the very antithesis of a possession receiver.JEC334 wrote:The difference between Moss and Simpson is that Moss was a possession WR.

Re: Jerome Simpson Interview
Moss WAS a possession WR. Possessions WRs are usually known for their ability to catch the ball despite how well they are cover. They're not the best route runners and are not known for their speed. I'm not saying Moss was slow but he was basically a run and catch it type guy. And it worked for us and no one was complaining back then. Now Moss may be past his prime but he was one of the most premier deep threats in the game. He was still able to catch over defenders despite being cover. That's what possession WRs do. He was the biggest threat in the red zone. But I think Moss biggest problem was his worth ethic.
As for Simpson he is not that type guy. He drops passes when no one is covering him so I know he's not going to catch it unless he has the defender beat. I like Simpson though. But he won't catch passes with the defender draped over him. And he wouldn't be my first read on a 3rd down play.
