Diggs

Post by Pondering Her Percy »

So I havent posted much about this but have noticed over the past week the drama going on with Diggs.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Vikings are adamant that Stefon Diggs isn't available for a trade, barring some massive deal.
Rapsheet noted that Diggs' frustration with the organization has been palpable. The Vikings' stud WR seemingly skipped practice on Wednesday, as he was listed as a DNP for non-injury reasons. Diggs averaged 9.9 targets per game in 2018, but that mark has dipped to just 4.8 through four weeks. 55 (!!!) WRs have more targets than Diggs this season. The Vikings' pass offense is set up about as well as possible for a rebound this week against a Giants defense that has allowed 8.2 net yards per pass attempt this season. Only the Dolphins (9.7) have been worse
It was "reported" a week ago that he requested a trade which supposedly wasnt true. Now he skipped practice yesterday.

My opinion on this: suck it up! No doubt he's frustrated and rightfully so. But at the same time, he hasnt exactly done his job the past few weeks. The helmet thing, fumbling last week, etc. It kind of ticks me off that he has the balls to do that given how he's played the past few weeks

The guy has been the consummate professional throughout his career. If he is pissed it is probably for a good reason.

There’s truth to all rumors.

Sigh. So, yeah, he's clearly not denying it. I get why he's not happy, but I was really hoping he's not being a diva. This isn't a great look though.

Regardless, the tweets, skipping practice, etc. I dont care what he's done in his career. That's being somewhat of a diva if you ask me. But please go ahead, blame Kirk

...Diggs can be a bit of a diva while also being partially Kirk's fault (for sucking at quarterbacking)...

I feel there’s truth to all rumors no matter how dress you it up,” Diggs said regarding the rumor that he could be traded, via Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “I won’t be saying nothing on it. I won’t be speaking on it at all. But there is truth to all rumors, I guess.
The space that we’re in right now is definitely is a lot of questions,” Diggs said. “I can’t sit up here and act like everything is OK because obviously it’s not but I can say at this point I’m just trying to work through it.
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... ll-rumors/

I'm not entirely sure which quote to put more focus on and trying to decipher them can always be tough, especially when someone is relatively cryptic. It's one thing to say that you're dissatisfied and that things aren't ok. It's another to say there is truth in trade rumors. That suggests to me, that its a level above unhappiness. I really hope things can be smoothed over and they can get a little more balance to this offense to make the players happy and the offense effective.

I'm really getting a bad feeling about things going off the rails, especially with the fact that they are completely tied to Cousins through at least next year. I really hope they can iron some of these things out or this entire team (specifically, players, coaches, management) may end up looking vastly different if this season doesn't have some positives to take away.

That is simply not true. His current actions are not being professional. All you have to do is look to the drama unfolding right now to see that. He’s frustrated, like everyone, he’s a leader on this team, Own it like a leader. Earn your money and do your job. It’s times like these when expectations are high and things aren’t going well that teammates and fans learn about who the team players are. Right now, I would say he’s not putting the team first. From where I sit that is not being a consummate pro......period!!

Listen I dont think Diggs and AT were happy to begin with after game 1 when we only threw 10 passes. They arent going to come out and say that but you cant tell me that wasnt the start of the frustration. That isn't Kirk's fault that's the coordinators. Were Diggs and Thielen frustrated last year? Outside of week 17 vs. Chicago no they werent. Because they were getting the ball non-stop. They didnt complain, they didnt go AWOL, they didnt request a trade. Now they arent touching the ball as much and they are getting ticked. Dont be surprised if they are more ticked at the coordinator than they are the QB. Kirk Cousins gave them both the best years of their careers last year. Now all of the sudden they hate him after 4 games? I dont buy it. I think they are ticked with how this offense has gone from heavy pass to heavy run.

I just dont get it. The run game looked inept last year. Guys were saying "we cant run the ball with this OL". I continued to say we COULD, Flip just REFUSED. I'm starting to think that's what Stefanski and Kubiak are doing when it comes to the pass. They CAN pass and be very effective. It showed last year. But it's almost like they are refusing to. To find an OC that can balance an offense is clearly a lot more difficult than I thought. I also think it's more Zimmer forcing them to do what he wants and thats pound the football. I feel like if Zimmer wasnt the HC, we wouldnt be holding back so much on the pass.

I just want fricken balance. That's all I've been saying on here. I said it last year and I'm saying it this year. I've said it ever since Shurmur left. I want to see a game where Cook goes for 105 and a TD and Kirk goes for 280+ and 2+ TDs. Granted, every game isnt going to be like that but damn, come on. Keep the D on their toes, make them have no idea what you are doing (Kirk even said that on his radio show the other day).

This team is not playing like a complete team right now. That's the problem. From Zim all the way down to Dan Bailey. Think about it, anything good that has happened or started to happen, we shot ourselves in the foot in those two losses.

-Come off a dominating win vs Atlanta just for the defense to play like crap in the first half vs. GB (on the defense)
-We come down after they score with a decent drive and miss a FG (on Bailey)
-Diggs scores but then takes his helmet off and costs us an XP (on Diggs)
-We start to come back and Cook gets called for a stupid PI (eventually it would have been 21-21) (on Cook/Refs)
-We have a good drive at the end of the game and Cousins throws a terrible INT (on Cousins)

-Force a fumble on the first drive of the Bears game just to get it called back for defensive holding (on Harris)
-We get into Chicago territory on the 2nd drive, just for Diggs to fumble (on Diggs)
-Have Thielen wide open on a decent looking drive just to overthrow him (on Cousins)
-We get the ball at half and get strip sacked on the first play (on Cousins/Reiff)
-We score and can make it a 1 possession game but have a terrible play call to Diggs on the 2pt conversion (on OC)

^^That is the definition of shooting ourselves in the foot. And those plays, for the most part, were complete game changers. They were the difference between winning and losing. But does anyone notice anything? Out of 10 of those, 3 were on Cousins. This is my point. For someone that gets the finger pointed at him all the time, it sure looks to me that plenty of other people didnt do their job well either. TEAM GAME

Bingo! Talk about a frustrated player....how about Rudy? The guy has like 4 catches on the year. Hasnt made a peep about it. When guys start posting "cryptic" crap to twitter, all I think of is Antonio Brown. That's what Diggs has been doing this week. Not to Browns severity but definitely doing it. That is being a diva. Beating around the bush in an interview with the media and tying your hood tight and barely talk....that's being a diva

Either way, go watch his presser on vikings.com.....it's not nearly as bad as the media is making it out to be. They are focusing on what's alarming and not on what Diggs explained. The media just takes away what makes a good headline which is frustrating. Makes me really hate the media.

There's a chance Diggs isn't allowed to play this week, likely stemming from his missed practice yesterday. Stefanski was pretty cryptic when asked and Diggs was catching passes at the end of practice from Browning while the others were catching from Cousins/Mannion. When Zimmer was asked he said "We'll have to see" regarding Diggs playing Sunday.

Pretty clear Diggs isn't happy with Cousins. And there's a bit of a.... schism.
