We just traded for pick #23 with Houston.

We got:
#23 (2024 1st)
#232 (2024 7th)

We sent them:
#42 (2024 2nd)
#188 (2024 6th)
2025 2nd

Trade! The #Vikings are getting another first-round pick.

They get No. 23 and 232 from Houston, in exchange for Nos. 42, 188 and a 2025 R2.

If we're doing this to try and move up in the 1st, I like it a lot more than wholesale giving up multiple years in a row 1st rounders.

Agree with this assessment. I wonder who they're possibly going to be trading up for? If they do, I'm hoping that it would be for Jayden Daniels.

If they decide to stay put after this trade the 23rd pick is probably a good spot to get one of the 2nd tier QBs. So 11 would become whoever they think is BPA. If one of the "top tier" QBs slip to 11 grab him and still have the 23rd pick for whoever they think is best there.

Interesting. I'm not a huge fan of giving up two 2nds but I'm curious what the plan is. I really hope they're not doing this to move up for a QB that would have been a reach at 11 like McCarthy.

The anti-Spielman approach. You know Spielman would have traded a first rounder for a couple of late round picks. As far as trading up, sounds like the teams with the top 3 picks are locked into drafting a qb. I suspect if a qb they have their eye on isn't selected by the first 3 teams, they'll try to move up to get him. Otherwise, just grab a decent player with both picks.

New prediction:
1)Washington trades up to #1 for Williams.
2)Bears trade #2 to highest bidder (not us).
3) We trade JJ to Chargers for #5 (no more Williams, Allen, or Ekeler).
4) If our QB is there at 5, we take him. Otherwise we take Harrison or BPA.
5) BPA at 11.
6) We trade up slightly from 23 to pick up QB (or BPA if we take QB at 5 or 11).

Interesting take. Chargers trading for JJ at 5. I would expect a 1st and 2nd this year and a 2nd next year. Interesting....
I love todays trade. This just shows that this GM is all in on getting a SB before I die.
We have over $100m in FA in 2025. Get your guy, QB, in this draft. Have him for 5 years on a rookie deal.
Build up players through the draft but target guys in FA. This could be a legitimate SB contender in 2025-2028 !!!

If we trade jj to the chargers and end up with Harrison that’s a huge gamble. Trading a known commodity for a unknown. If we trade JJ for anything but what we believe to be a franchise qb is a loss.

This won't happen but imagine moving up for Harrison and keeping JJ. I think JJ, Marvin, Addison, Hock, and this new RB could make Darnold look like a Hall of Famer.

Mcarthy is a GAME MANAGER. Imagine if Penix was QB for Michigan, you don’t think Harbaugh would have passed the ball a little more?! If Odunze falls to 11, got him. Then Penix with 23 (NOT a second rate QB). Offense would be crazy for years. Jefferson, Odunze, Addison and Hock… greatest assembly of pass catchers maybe of all time. This feels like a special draft. Then do whatever we have to, to get back in the second round and pick up Sweat and Fiske.

BUT… if Kwesi trades 3 1sts to get JJ Mcarthy, which I feel is inevitable, I’m gonna lose my shlt.

This is exactly the type of scenario I have been pushing for. This is how they get a Lombardi! It might not play out exactly like you laid out, but it’s a legitimate example! Clearing out the books this year and having a war chest of $ in 2025-2028 to go after some legit proven talent in FA at key positions of need along with the young talent they will have on the books. It would be a great spot to be in if you ask me. This is the best type of approach to a championship IMO
