Patrick wants Vikings to trade for Jones, I do not see that happening unless Chandler is willing to be a back up, thoughts?

Re: Chandler Jones
Chandler Jones is technically an outside LB, but in actuality is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. He would instantly take up the starting DE spot for the Vikings I think.RandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 10:08 pm https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/patr ... e-request/

Re: Chandler Jones
If the right deal is there, Jones would make a solid addition. Someone would have to go to make room for him on the roster. Not sure who that would be.RandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 10:08 pm https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/patr ... e-request/

I would disagree. IMO he's currently our second best pass rusher behind only Hunter.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 10:09 amThat is easy. Weatherly adds nothing and costs way too.VikingLord wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 9:51 am

That would make this dline almost as bad as 2020.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 10:12 amI would disagree. IMO he's currently our second best pass rusher behind only Hunter.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 10:09 am
That is easy. Weatherly adds nothing and costs way too.
Weatherly's Pass Rush Win % Rank:
2018: 92nd out of 109 Edge Rushers
2019: 94th out of 105
2020: 109th out of 121
Weatherly's Pressure % Rank:
2018: 77th out of 109
2019: 78th out of 105
2020: 115th out of 121
Pass Rush Grade:
2018: 80th out of 109
2019: 105th out of 105
2020: 108th out of 121
Wonnum wasn't much better last season, but he was a rookie in a season where almost all rookie dlinemen sucked, and he was better. As far as DTs, Richardson and Tomlinson didn't exactly light the world on fire last year from a pass rush standpoint, but they were significantly better at getting after the QB than Weatherly did last year, at a position that typically doesn't get after the QB as much as DE.

Re: Chandler Jones
Barring acquiring a pass rusher in trade (like this scenario) I'm expecting Weatherly to be our second best pass rusher and to not suck. Time will tell if I'm right or wrong.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 10:37 amThat would make this dline almost as bad as 2020.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 10:12 am

Re: Chandler Jones
His Freakish Size/Speed combination and the Vikings opting to sign him to what you consider a massive contract (costs too much). The Vikings clearly saw something in him to make them willing to sign him to that costs too much contract.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 11:02 amBased on what?VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 10:55 am

Re: Chandler Jones
His "freakish size/speed" is pretty much identical to Wonnum's, Jones, and Robinson. It isn't anything special.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 11:32 amHis Freakish Size/Speed combination and the Vikings opting to sign him to what you consider a massive contract (costs too much). The Vikings also signed Dozier. Does that make him a good guard?
If the Vikings cut Weatherly, it saves 2 million. 2 million in this offseason gets you a starting CB (Breeland), a starting caliber DT (Ricahrdson), a quality #3 WR/punt returner (Westbrook), or a starting safety (Woods).
That is WAY too much for what is factually one of the worst pass rushing DEs in football over the past 3 seasons, who was brought in because he knows the system more than because he actually plays well in that system.

Re: Chandler Jones
Actually his Size/Speed is Freakish. I believe it's better than the three you mentioned, but they are also borderline freakish. The Vikings draft for those traits. So it is special. You think he sucks. I don't. Time will tell.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 12:09 pmHis "freakish size/speed" is pretty much identical to Wonnum's, Jones, and Robinson. Re: Chandler Jones
Depends on how you guys are defining "freakish" but he's top tier in size and arm length. In terms of speed, he's upper quartile-ish.
https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/stephen-weatherly
Wonnum looks to not have the size but more burst and speed.
https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/dj-wonnum
Hopefully numbers isn't everything, because Patrick Jones looks ugly:
https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/patrick-jones
Doesn't help that his numbers compare to Scott Crichton.

When you combine size and speed Weatherly is freakish. I think these were numbers compared to the other draftees, at his position, in his class. 98th percentile for weight and 76th percentile for speed. How many people larger than him were faster than him? The answer was probably 0.
Stump called Wonnum at 13th percentile weight, 86th percentile speed almost identical to Weatherly. I'm guessing the discrepancy came from Weatherly lumped in with the LBs while Wonnum was lumped in with just DE or DL.
Jones is actually good when it comes to weight/speed in the 10 yard split. He was below average in everything else.
