Puple Kool aid talk time

Post by jackal »

I think we're basically two things (untested) away from a real shot
at championship. offensive line play I like Reif and not as sure about
Remmers (sp) Thank God Khalil is finally gone, we paid him a lot
Lot of money to ride the injury bench and play poorly.

I expected a little more from Boone last season but we
did have a lot of personal movement next to him.

Ability to score more points on offense. Let's just face
It our offense needs to score more points! Our defense
and special teams can't bail us out with points every game.

I hope that Bradford wills this team to at least two more wins. That still may not be enough to make the playoffs. The defense will have to also will the team to a couple in order to break through the cheese. In order to have any chance of making to the big game it will have to be lights out in all three phases all year.

Nickel / Slot CB is another question mark, but not as important as the two you listed.

This team will not get much favorable press because most of the media in sports is based on past results. It rarely looks for leading indicators. Thus Vikings are labeled as poor offense with no rushing attack and terrible blocking. This despite the fact that 3 of the starters on OL are going to be different from last season and last year's starter likely ending up 3rd on the depth chart at RB. That is a lot of change. Big question is can the coaches bring it together by September? Luckily most of the changes are Veterans.

I've said this a lot, but just having an average Tackle in place of TJ Clemmings is a VAST improvement on the OL. How much that adds up to more offensive production is hard to estimate, but not having what seemed like every other down hamstrung by blown blocks and or penalties is going to be a material change, at least IMO.

Imo Our LT is above average and both of the two tackles
we picked up are noted for not missing games. Consistency
for most good lines is must and we had what 7 different people
start at tackle last season?

The other bonus this season is all three of our backs
can catch the ball out of the backfield. Peterson never could
manage this well. Hopefully this adds enough of a problem for
defenses to add some more scoring.

I think the old man is going to cover nickel/slot
corner?

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, I just have the view that they need to prove it. Keep in mind in the case of both Remmers and Reiff, their previous teams let them hit the makret, in other words the GM of another pro-team felt they could do better. Also, OL additions notoriously take time to come into their own given the nature of how an OL works as a unit.

My main reason for expecting improvement is partly what you said about the injury history, but mostly the fact that what we had at Tackle last year was almost historically awful. We do not need Reiff/Remmers to be world beaters to see a significant improvement from what we saw last season. That shouldn't be a major hurdle to overcome.

I think the RB stable should be an overall upgrade, but I'm worried about Dalvin Cook's ball security issues. Can he overcome that? If not he'll be a non-factor. Again, an issue where the player needs to prove it.

I thought Alexander was going to take on Slot, but I could be remembering incorrectly. That one is a bigger question mark and I suspect that overall we'll be good, but there might be some early season growing pains.

Overall, I think the roster has improved quite a bit on offense. I'm not saying they'll be a top 10 unit, but if they can add 7 points a game to last season's performance then our defense should be enough to take us deep into the playoffs.

Judged from the spiel man defense into camp video
it looks like his whole offseason has been dedicated
to that role.

I think our overall defense is going to be even better.
