Sam Bradford sat out team drills, most throws today. "Muscle tightness," says Mike Zimmer. Believes he'll be back throwing tomorrow

Marshall Koehn, competing at kicker with Kai Forbath, has looked pretty solid through three OTAs open to reporters. Legit battle there.

Rick today:

On Decker: "We look at everybody but we feel pretty confident with our receivers."

On backup QB: "There's a battle between Keenum and Heinicke."

On kicker competition: "Right now it's a heated battle. It will be a big training camp battle. But watch out for Koehn [go Hawks!] he has a chance to be pretty special."

On Teddy: basically no timeline due to severity and rare injury. Will need to be cleared by medical staff [duh]

On Eagen facility: "Will be state-of-the-art and best facility that I know of in the NFL."

Post Re: 2017 Season General Comments (pressers, practice notes,
Minicamp Day 1

Quote:
1. Robinson vying for starting spot
Edmond Robinson built off a strong few weeks of Organized Team Activity practices by having a solid outing on the first day of minicamp.
Robinson, who has lined up next to Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks with the first-team defense for much of the offseason program, is aiming for the starting spot vacated by the retired Chad Greenway. The third-year linebacker and Emmanuel Lamur took reps with the first team base defense on Tuesday.
Robinson impressed Tuesday by leaping up to knock away a pass inside the 10-yard line in a red zone drill.
Robinson saved his best for later by perfectly reading a Taylor Heinicke pass, corralling the interception and racing the other way.

2. Vikings kicking pair aims true
Vikings kickers Kai Forbath and Marshall Koehn continued their kicking battle Tuesday by both knocking down every field goal they attempted.
The duo each hit from 37, 41 and 43 yards during team drills, while Forbath made a 45-yard try and Koehn drilled a 46-yard attempt.
Forbath had one an extra chance later on during a hurry-up session and nailed a 42-yard try with less than two minutes left on the clock.
Forbath has made 17 of 19 field goals in team drills this spring, while Koehn has been successful on 14 of his 16 attempts.

3. A vet move
Vikings cornerback Terence Newman has seen a thing or two as he enters his 15th professional season.
The veteran provided a lighthearted moment Tuesday during a team drill after a referee threw a flag for defensive pass interference.
Newman, on the sideline during the play, ran over and picked up the flag before jogging back toward the sideline. The former first-round pick then playfully tossed the flag back to the official and had a laugh with him.

Catch of the Day
Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs made one of the most impressive catches of the spring Tuesday when he made a tumbling catch on a deep pass from quarterback Sam Bradford.
Diggs adjusted his body position on cornerback Xavier Rhodes before twisting back to secure the catch despite sprawling to the ground.
An incredulous Rhodes playfully tried to slap the ball away from Diggs after the play, but the wide receiver was able to celebrate his impressive snag.

Gee another year another position for Clemmings.
I'm not even sure Elfein will beat Easton out at center. Then where does Elfein move to?

Elflein will remain at center, either as the starter or backup to Easton. He played guard as well at OSU so he provides versatility but they'll probably want him to stick to one position for now. My guess is center is really the only position up for grabs in camp in terms of who will be the starter. Clemmings has a lot of competition for a backup guard spot as Kerin, Sirles, Isidora, Beavers, and Tagaloa are all in the mix. Plus Easton/Elflein depending who wins that battle.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Easton get the nod over Elflein to begin the season. It's hard to say when they haven't even put the pads on but reports are that center is tasked with a lot more protection calls in the Vikings offense vs OSU.

I think right now Easton's advantage is his 3 years experience in the league. Plus he is bigger than Elfein
I do believe it will be a good competition.
I agree with what your saying. It also will be interesting to see who emerges as the backup tackles in training camp.

Easton definitely has the advantage, I believe he saw time in 11 games last year and started in 5. Not all at center but that's valuable experience Elflein doesn't have yet. Ideally they both turn out to be good as Berger probably only has a year left in the tank.

If Easton is the opening day starter then I will be extremely disappointed. Easton is not a good player. Has everyone already forgot one of the worst snaps in NFL history?

Post Re: 2017 Season General Comments (pressers, practice notes,
I really dont think Easton is that bad. He's a middling talent/decent to solid depth piece. One bad snap shouldnt be the "end all be all" for Easton. Outside of that snap, I thought he played fairly decent last year for just being thrown in there. Does anyone else remember how horrid Matt Birk was the first year or two he was at center??? Not saying this guy is the next Matt Birk or anything but the guy just saw his first real in game action last year. I notice that a lot of fans on this forum are so unbelievably quick to judge. It really drives me nuts at times. Not trying to offend anyone because everyone is different but from the "Treadwell is a bust" to "Waynes is a bust" to "Easton is not a good player, look at his one bad snap", to "Linval Joseph is just a fat guy with a bullet in his leg" to "Captain Munnerlyn is a midget that cant cover". Get my point now?? Pretty much everyone I mentioned above has proved the "quick to judge" fans wrong or on the verge of being wrong. No less it was all in their FIRST years playing in the NFL or playing for us.

Captain got that label his first year with us.
Linval got that label his first year with us.
Treadwell got that label his rookie year.
Waynes got that label his rookie year.
Easton got that label his first year seeing playing time.

There's a common trend here. Let's give the guys some time before we just say who's good and who's bad their first years in the league or on this team. Otherwise you're just digging yourself your own hole and will be eating crow before you know it. Everyone is obviously entitled to their own opinion but at the same time, your own opinion is going to continue to bite you the more you're so quick to judge. This isnt directed at anyone specifically, I'm just saying this in general. I dont want to offend anyone.

It is. You are just not using anyone's name. You literally labeled me as a 'bad fan' using the premise of my post above. You are continually passive aggressive on this board and continually belittle fans who don't agree with you. It gets old.

I am not willing to label myself as a fan who is quick to judge. I mentioned the snap because 1). It was abysmal 2). It killed our momentum in the GB game. It was all downhill from that play. PFF gave him a 45.9 grade this season (PFF isn't my cup of tea - just pointing it out). We consistently struggled to pick up the blitz with him on the field (a center's line call contributes significantly to blitz pick-up). When he was the center we couldn't successfully run up the gut or score on the goal line consistently (play directed though the center/guard position).

To me, Easton cannot be labeled anything more than a below-average center.

Maybe so but Easton was starting for the first time last year. Obviously he will make mistakes, but with Elflein being drafted, I am pretty sure that the competitive nature has kicked in and Easton is working harder than everto not only improve his weaknesses but his overall game. A defense exploits your weaknesses. Hard to fix on the fly, but an offseason is perfect. Thus, I expect Easton to be much improved.
I am liking the OL. I am expecting Reiff and Remmers to be solid. Boone will be much better with Reiff beside him. Berger will be solid and then we have good backups.
I like the Isidora pick. I hope that he pans out. We need to get contributions from the drafted OL.

I always thought that your OL is only as good as your weakest link. OL can be much more effective with 5 average linemen vs 4 all pro's and 1 Clemmings/Charlie Johnson type player.

I think we will finally see what it's like to have some time in the pocket.

 dude you're just putting words into my mouth. I never said you were a "bad" fan. I'm just saying give guys a chance before you label them when they've seen what? 5 games where he started? That's an awful small sample size if you ask me. Nor am I belittiling everyone. You literally just blew up a post for way more than what it was. I provided facts of what different fans said. Not JUST you. This post isn't all about you or going after you. I just pointed out why we shouldn't be so quick to judge. Not call someone a bad fan. Nobody said you're a bad fan. I said give guys a chance to actually prove themselves. Like I said, Matt Birk was horrendous when he first started out. If you judged him off his first 5 games starting, you'd just about throw up. So what does the "quick to judge" outlook really prove? Remember the old saying don't judge a book by its cover? Either way stop reading what you want to read and distorting it in your own way. I never said you were a bad fan nor was I implying it for that matter.

Post Re: 2017 Season General Comments (pressers, practice notes,
Here is what you said, verbatim:

1). After specifically responding to my post about Easton and his bad snap you label me - "I notice that a lot of fans on this forum are so unbelievably quick to judge."

2). My post is directly referenced: "Not trying to offend anyone because everyone is different but from the "Treadwell is a bust" to "Waynes is a bust" to "Easton is not a good player, look at his one bad snap", to "Linval Joseph is just a fat guy with a bullet in his leg" to "Captain Munnerlyn is a midget that cant cover". Get my point now??" (Plausible deniability with the, "get my point now?")

3). You then, again, label me as a 'quick to judge fan,' - using my Easton quote: "Pretty much everyone I mentioned above has proved the "quick to judge" fans wrong or on the verge of being wrong"

4). Your lecture to me and others: "Otherwise you're just digging yourself your own hole and will be eating crow before you know it. Everyone is obviously entitled to their own opinion but at the same time, your own opinion is going to continue to bite you the more you're so quick to judge. This isnt directed at anyone specifically, I'm just saying this in general. I dont want to offend anyone."(Essentially telling me and others how to be a fan. Incorrectly labeling me at the same time).

I defend myself and YOU have the audacity to call foul? I have had it with your passive aggressiveness on this board. I put you on the foe list a long time ago. However, I continually have to see your posts when I visit this board as a guest (I don't log in much anymore). Even then, I still see them referenced in others' quotes when I am logged in. I am tired of it. I will not be belittled by you and I will not hesitate to defend my opinions on this board.

My god dude relax. Saying you seem quick to judge on Easton and calling someone a "bad fan" are two completely different things. You said I basically called you a bad fan. Which is 110% false. But I'm being called "passive aggressive" by you because I said some guys seem to be quick to judge and in your eyes thats me calling you a "bad fan". Give me a break. I didnt say anything wrong to you or anyone else. You're judging a guy off the first 6 games of his career. No less the kids undrafted. That doesnt seem like a small sample size to you?? Either way I specifically said it wasnt directed towards you and only you. I'm saying in general there are a lot of fans that are quick to judge. But instead you just went on a huge tangent about how I basically called you a "bad fan". Something I never once said, never was implying, etc. You're on a forum and someone thought you were judging a player on an extremely small sample size, essentially being to quick to judge and you turned it into this?? A good fan/bad fan rant? I just provided a handful of examples of guys (NOT JUST YOU) jumping all over players when they base things on small sample sizes. Not sure why that is all of the sudden frowned upon. It's facts. That doesnt mean they are bad fans. I said I wasnt directing it at anyone, didnt want to offend anyone or anything but that maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge on these young players. If you can't see the truth in that then I don't know what to tell you. Foe me I guess, start logging on, I don't know? And the "YOU have the audacity to call foul" comment? Uh yeah because you just accused me of something I clearly didnt do. So that's me defending myself. I never called or implied that you were a bad fan so you can stop that now. Thanks, moving on.

Thanks 808,
I was just getting ready to start looking for the TC sked. So bored this off-season and I've been trying to keep my mind off of the Vikings but slim chance of that. Can't wait to see how the rooks will impact the team. Then how in shape the vets are and ready to go. And really excited to see how Bradford will take charge.

His comment on Floyd was interesting too.

Apparently Barr and Everson are working with some agility guy. Calls himself the "movement Miyagi."

Good find DP. Cant' get over his house. Man made lake?

Everything I read about Zimmer makes me hope the Vikings keep him long term.

I was kind of laughing about that too, especially since he's the coach of a team in a state with over 11K REAL lakes and no shortage of beautiful landscapes. If he's not fond of the long cold winters, I can understand that... but he certainly could have found what he was looking for closer to MPLS.

That shot of him in front of the pond seemed incongruent with his image: the fountain in the middle of it seems like something you'd see near a mall or corporate headquarters, not out in the woods.

Despite our different tastes in real estate, I love the guy as our coach. :D

More on Zimmer's 'house'

Quote:
“Those beams are unique to that house,” Josh Ludwig, Lunsford’s project manager, told me. “The carpenter says he never wants to do that again. It was hard.”

Quote:
And Zimmer told him he wanted a huge fireplace that the real estate agent likened to “the ones they have at Cracker Barrel.”
The fireplace is 18 feet long.
