Greg Hardy suspended 10 games

Post by dead_poet »

@LATimesfarmer Dallas Cowboys' Greg Hardy was notified today that he is suspended without pay for the team’s first 10 games of the 2015 regular season.
@AlbertBreer NFL announces a 10-game suspension for Cowboys DE Greg Hardy. Without pay. That would be a pretty serious statement by the league.
@AlbertBreer NFL: "In a letter from Commissioner Roger Goodell, Hardy was informed that an extensive two-month NFL investigation following the dismissal of his case in North Carolina state court determined that there was sufficient credible evidence that Hardy engaged in conduct that violated NFL policies in multiple respects and with aggravating circumstances."
@LATimesfarmer NFL investigation concluded that Greg Hardy failed to provide "complete and accurate" information to league investigators and staff.
@RapSheet Goodell to Hardy: “You should understand that another violation of this nature may result in your banishment from the NFL.”
@AdamSchefter This is the new NFL.

@corryjoel If Greg Hardy's 10 game suspension is upheld, the most he'll earn of his $9.25M per game roster bonus is $3,468,750 (6 x $578,125).
Dallas just got some more cap space.

Hardy's cap charge (before the suspension news) was $3.2M on a contract that could have paid $13M with incentives. Because of the way Dallas structured Hardy's contract, I don't think it's going to have much impact on the Cowboys cap. He has a series of roster bonuses that are (for the most part) only charged to the cap as they are paid.

Seems like Hardy has solid grounds for his appeal since the retroactive application of the old personal conduct policy has already been overturned twice with Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson. His biggest challenge will be to get into a court and get a ruling before the season starts.

10 games ... Goodell really hammered him, especially where there was no conviction (even if Hardy bought off the victim which he clearly did).
