I'm watching the Auburn/FSU game and a kid from Auburn just knocked a punt back that would have landed inside the 1 yard line, but did so with with a foot in the end zone. The ball was clearly outside the end zone, but he player was in the end zone. He didn't down the ball, just knocked it back, preventing it from bouncing into the end zone, and it was downed at the 4.
Is this permitted in college ball and different than the pros?

Yeah. I think it's where the ball is, not the body. Definitely different and less strict.

The rule is different in college. I saw that in one of the other bowl games, may have been the Cotton Bowl.
