Would you start Decker over Dez?

Post by dead_poet »

Legit question. Decker has more points in the last two weeks than Dez does in his last five and and Manning will be without Welker, offering more potential targets. Neither matchup is too difficult, but Decker's is easier (vs. San Diego. Dez vs. GB).

Nope I would start them both, unless you already had one of Calvin, Flash Gordon, AJ. And I like Dez a bit more than Decker this week. At home vs a so so secondary. And I don't buy the shootout of the century Thursday, Chargers can't hang with Denver, and Thursdays have normally been anything but a shootout.

I can't start them both, unfortunately. My WRs (after several trades) are: Demariyus Thomas, Josh Gordon, Dez Bryant, Pierre Garcon and Eric Decker. I'm already starting Thomas and Gordon as no-brainers.

Rivers has the fourth-most passing yards in the league and the Chargers are in the top-10 in scoring. While Thursday games haven't produced a ton of points, there has been ample scoring in most (30 or more points have been scored by a team six times. 50 or more points have been combined 4 times this season). I think the Broncos are averaging something like 39 points/game or something ridiculous like that. Rivers has also been playing well this season and my opponent, unfortunately, has Keenan Allen (who will be good for 100+ yards and at least one TD).

Dez' talent is undeniable, but the Cowboys' offense has struggled as of late and Bryant hasn't been very "meh." With Flynn under center for the Pack, I don't think this is going to be a high-scoring game. Though it's possible, I suppose, as Dallas' defense is almost historically awful.

Right now I have Dez in the lineup, but I'm not entirely comfortable and think he might get outscored by Decker again this week. Possibly significantly.

Did you punt another position and load up on wideouts?

I have one team that has Gordon, Alshon, and Dez, unfortunately I didn't start Alshon the week both he and Gordon went over 200, but I still won thankfully, I would have been full of regret in a loss. Which I'm puzzled about, because the first week Gordon was back vs Vikings I kept him benched and lost because of it. After that I said start everyone against Vikings, but that was the week I kinda got lazy with my lineups.

BTW, that game in dallas could be a shootout afterall, supposedly Andrew Quarless of the Pack said Rogers was taking snaps with the 1st team Wednesday. But he has an MRI scheduled, if that looks good there is a chance. And 4 targets for Dez Monday, Romo usually makes up for that. But there is also the fact that December is not historically a great month for Romo. Ahhh all the stuff we have to muddle through in the fantasy playoffs. Romo and Dez did go off in the fantasy playoffs last year, week 15 I think Dez had 160 and 2 or 3 TDs. My bad that was week 16, he had 224 and 2 receiving TDs.

I wouldn't say I punted, but I did have some foresight and made some calculated risks. I grabbed/stashed Gordon way late in the draft and snagged Moreno off waivers before he blew up and turned him into Dez straight up. Drafted Demaryius and Garcon and traded for Decker early in the season when an owner was nervous because he only scored 4 points on two catches in week 1. My RB situation has been in a state of flux and could be considered "weak" by comparison, though this is due more to injury and trades than sacrificing the position. I drafted Doug Martin, Vereen and Murray but traded Murray for Spiller early because I thought I was being clever. I've been lucky on waivers as I snagged Lacy and Andre Brown. So my RB starters have been Lacy and Brown or Vereen. Not great, but not awful. TE is Graham. Defense is the 49ers. Snagged Cam Newton in the 5th round and plucked Vick way late as a backup.

It's a tough call. I'm pretty sure no matter what I decide, it'll be wrong. My brain says keep Dez in the lineup, but my gut's telling me to go Decker. I think Decker's "floor" could be lower than Dez', as Dez is/should be the #1 target in the passing game while Decker normally has to fight for targets with Thomas, Welker (ruled out), and other Thomas. But with the way Decker has been going and now no Welker in this one...
