Teams like NE or BAL can afford to draft him. They already have a decent set of WRs and wont have to lean on him like we might have to. Jennings will not be able to do it alone. The rookie we draft is going to need to be an immediate contributor.

I voted that Allen shouldn't be a first round pick. But I felt that way long before he performed at the Pro Day. And I don't care about his 40 time, since I seriously doubt the Vikings would draft Allen because of his speed. They would be looking for a constant chain mover and someone who can make tough catches in the end zone, in my view. Is that Allen? I have my doubts, but the Vikings scouting staff will research him far more than I can. I'm just going by what I've seen of Allen in actual games.

Ahem...maybe Allen deliberately underperformed whenever he knew I was watching. :D

Folks, I'm telling you I honestly don't feel there is a sure thing among any of the WRs in this draft. Don't get me wrong now. I really like what some of these guys bring to the field and it won't surprise me the least bit if several of them *develop* (key word here) into big time NFL players. Heck, that could even happen with Allen.

However, that said, while I once wanted the Vikings to pick a receiver in R1 (and I'm fine with them still doing that), I now think it would be a good idea if they got their WR in R2. And I believe some good ones will still be available to them at that time. Go with MLB and maybe CB or DT in R1.

That's why I want Robert Woods, there is no total package height / weight / speed combination in this draft. Lot of these guys have some speed like Austin but severely lacking in the height / weight department. Then there is allen who has the size but lacks elite speed. Woods to me is basically Anquan Boldin, pretty much average in all the physical categories but probably the best when it comes to WR skills. Sure in a normal year you take Megatron, AJ green, Brandon Marshal, etc but there aren't any of those guys. Hopefully that means he'll be available in the 2nd round as well because of it and if you told anyone they could get Boldin's production in the second round I'm sure they'd be happy to do it.

Woods is another guy I had the pleasure of watching in full games and I think highly of him. As for his speed, the guy may not be a burner but he's very quick, even a good returner when needed. Another very important part of Woods' game is that USC used to move him around, meaning he can play the slot, wide out, or flanker without missing a beat. Woods is that versatile and (at least in my view) a much more complete talent then Keenan Allen.

I'm starting to want Woods the same way I wanted Hakeem Nicks in '09. I just don't think he's going to be available in R2 unless we do some maneuvering.

Yes, basically that's what I mean. I think the Vikings may have to trade up to get Woods in R2. However, since it's a trade in the same round, I doubt that they would have to give up anything too painful.

The other option is to trade down from 25; the exchange value would be a high 2nd (38-40 area) and a high 3rd. That extra 4th that we picked up last year via Spielman's smart dealings w/ Cleveland may give us the ammunition we need to move up w/in the 2nd. I think I'd rather do that than move down from 25.

I'm on board with Woods. Sounds like a high character guy too. Kalil will surely have debriefed our scouts on his take.

I like either of those scenarios. I worry about him getting past New England in round 1 though.

I'm not even concerned about Woods' character. I think he'd be a great addition to the locker room/community. I'm more concerned with his ability and ankle.

I'm happy to see more people on the board appreciating Aaron Dobson. Personally, I would be delighted if the Vikings picked him.

BTW, I'm not convinced the Vikings are going to pick only one WR. I think they'll select two.

They better pick two. I definitely appreciate Dobson. Went to a Marshall game in Huntington in 2010 and didnt really know about him then but love that team. Back then it was all about that athlete guy Troy evans that got arrested
