What a horrific blow to a very promising season. Mbakwe was a rising star in the Big 10, and the Gophers leaned heavily on him. Hopefully he can come back next year strong and fully recovered.Former coach: Mbakwe out for season with torn ACL
Gophers forward Trevor Mbakwe has a torn ACL in the right knee and will be out for the season, according to Tom Dasovich, his former high school basketball coach at Henry Sibley High School.
Dasovich is now the boys' basketball coach at Minnetonka.
Mbakwe injured his knee during Sunday night's championship game of the Old Spice Classic in Orlando.
Dayton won the game 86-70.
