The spelling of his name is disputed, though usually we see Osama bin Laden there are many variations. I'm sure it has to do with translation barriers or something.

Arabic uses a different alphabet than English, so it's a transliteration (same thing happens with chinese or japanese or russian or hebrew), and those are always weird.

Yeah I did a little research and there are tons of ways to spell it. Generally the media uses Osama bin Laden. Official government documents use Usama bin Laden or Usama bin Ladin generally. Good point about the alphabet though, makes official spelling impossible when you switch from arabic to roman characters.
