In the story I read in another book, Iowa had been complaining about penalties all game. On that particular play, QB Sammy Gross complaining about holding on the Northwestern DLine. He then "marked" off the penalty himself, then took off, with the NU safety catching him after a 54 yard gain. Iowa didn't really need the help, they won the game 27-0.
