Baseball seriously needs to do something
That Red Sox/Yankees game lasted almost 4 friggin' hours! And it started at 8 at night! The twins have a game at 10, 10, that realistically won't wrap up until past 1 in the morning. On a Monday! Thats ridiculous.
There has to be something baseball can do to speed up the game or have the games at earlier times. Its madness.

Do they still televise baseball?
Seriously though ... if I was a fan I'd be upset.
Just FYI if you're a baseball fan, I recently got a Roku box which streams from your netflix watch it now queue ... they've got a channel on their that allows you to play all baseball games for free. It's a pretty cool device.

Yeah, and now that I look at it more there are different membership levels so there might be some kind of monthly fee.glg wrote: Is it hitting mlb.com or something like that?
I wish they'd get a deal going with the NFL ... even if it was as expensive as Sunday ticket at least you wouldn't have to have direct TV : P (or whichever satellite provider it's on).
Re: Baseball seriously needs to do something
Yeah, I found the pricing for it.
It's either 14.95 a month or 19.95 a month (but it looks like you have to pay for the whole year up front) depending on the package you get. With the more expensive package you can choose between the home and away broadcast.
So it's not free ... but I'd definitely get it for football so I'm assuming baseball fans feel the same way.

They need to cut down on the ridiculous amount of glove adjusting, sock adjusting, helmet adjusting, etc of the batters. You have to adjust your gloves after every pitch, even though you didn't swing? Really? You have to step out of the batter's box and readjust your stance after every pitch, even though you didn't swing? Really?
And the Twins game was at an earlier time. In California. That's where it was played, ya know.

That is why when the twins are playing, I hope the pitcher throws a perfect game so the game can actually last under 3 hours!

What is really funny, is the ones who do all that are the crappy hitters, for the most part. Derek Jeter, Joe Mauer, Albert Pujouls all just get in the box and they are ready.DeeEss57 wrote:

It is like in the casinos when the old hags sit next to me and rub the screen every time they spin the reels on the machines. THEY NEVER WIN!! EVER!! I want to hit those people. And laugh at them when I do better than them. I always do better than them because I'm not a moron. My point is, the silly extra crotch adjusting and screen rubbing does nothing whatsoever.

Re: Baseball seriously needs to do something
They need a pitch clock similar to a shot clock in basketball or the delay of game clock in football. You have X amount of seconds to throw the ball. Bet that would speed things up.

They do, 12 seconds after the pitcher gets the ball from the catcher.
from the official MLB rules:
8.04
When the bases are unoccupied, the pitcher shall deliver the ball to the batter within 12 seconds after he receives the ball. Each time the pitcher delays the game by violating this rule, the umpire shall call “Ball.” The 12-second timing starts when the pitcher is in possession of the ball and the batter is in the box, alert to the pitcher. The timing stops when the pitcher releases the ball.
The intent of this rule is to avoid unnecessary delays. The umpire shall insist that the catcher return the ball promptly to the pitcher, and that the pitcher take his position on the rubber promptly. Obvious delay by the pitcher should instantly be penalized by the umpire.

Haha check this out
If you're struggling to stifle yawns and stay focused the morning after watching the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox play another 4-hour marathon, umpire Joe West feels your pain.
Before Wednesday night's game, West called the AL East rivals "embarrassing" and "a disgrace to baseball" for slowing the pace of their games to a crawl, according to the Bergen (N.J.) Record.
The teams' season opener on Sunday took 3:46 to play. Tuesday night's game went 3:48, while Wednesday night's contest, which went 10 innings, was finished in a relatively brisk 3:21.
"They're the two clubs that don't try to pick up the pace," said West, the chief of the umpiring crew working the three-game series, according to the report. "They're two of the best tems in baseball. Why are they playing the slowest?
"It's pathetic and embarrassing. They take too long to play," he said, according to the report. ESPN.com

Re: Baseball seriously needs to do something
No the worst is basketball. Between the intentional fouls that aren't called as intentional and the disgusting amount of time outs that each team holds until the final minutes, it is stupid.

Re: Baseball seriously needs to do something
Yeah, the last 3 minutes taking longer than the previous 30 in the game. I feel your pain.
There should a be a short time limit, and a strict limit to the amount of times you can fiddle with your gloves, bat grip, stance, and nutsack. Every time you go over the limit..... STTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-RIKE!
But with the law of unintended consequences, and the universe's steadfast refusal to let me watch baseball games at a reasonable time and pace, that would only encourage players to take as much time as they could, and lengthen the game.
