I've seen Savatage for the "Gutter Ballet" tour at First Avenue in Minneapolis in 1989. Even though I was totally into them already, they opened up for Sancuary (Nevermore) , and Fates Warning...which I really dug as well.

Then, I saw them for the "Streets: A Rock Opera" tour at the Mirage in Minneapolis around 1991.

What an awesome band...

Even back then John Oliva had such powerful music. Piano, strings, anything to make it a more solid, thick sound.

I am a Viking in going out to war
And I've got death upon my mind
As I was leavin' oh yesterday
I've got no fear in my heart
