McMahon, Smith latest ex-NFL quarterbacks to struggle in Canada

DAVID NAYLOR

Mike McMahon's first season in the CFL is starting to look as though it might be his last.

After starting back-to-back games for the Toronto Argonauts the past two weeks, the former NFL pivot now finds himself buried as the third-stringer for this week's game at Montreal. And there's no indication he will play again soon.

It's tough for a lot of these Qb's because in the NFL they were kind of game managers, handing the ball off making a couple of throws. In the CFL you have to pass a lot more and stretch the field so it's probally tough to adjust.

And don't forget the 12th guy! Qbs are programmed to look for 11 guys... That extra one always seems to come in to haunt them.

The CFL is a faster game.

McMahon couldn't keep up with the speed of the NFL.

Danny McManus, Damon Allen, and Dave Dickenson were great players in the CFL. They could have made it in the NFL if given a real chance, but they are legends in the CFL, so who cares.

By the way, it would be nice if a Twin Cities station would carry Winnipeg games live.

Don't talk to me about Mike McMahon! Former Kansas State star Mike Bishop was the QB for my Toronto Argonauts and was moving the offense like nobody's business, but then...boom...broken wrist and in comes McMahon who proceeds to stink hard!

Loved watching Bishop at KState. He made the game interesting while in College.

Bishop's been an Argo since 2002 and up until late last year he was a bust, but a change in offensive co-ordinator seemed to work for him and he looked amazing until he got hurt. The Argos have failed to win a game since.
