What happened to the thread suggesting new graphics?

Post by Eli »

Suggesting AND volunteering.

I hadn't looked at the purple on black skin in quite a while, but the guy was right. At least update the photos to reflect the new uniforms.

Ideally, though, the whole header needs to be fixed. The center logo looks terrible on a black background.

How long has the prosilver skin been available? It's a nice addition, but I really dislike having the user info on the right side. I read from left to right and the first thing I want to read is who the poster is.

I guess that was illegal. :-(

Prosilver was the default since the board's inception. The other skins were added later with purple now being the default. I've always used silver, I think it's easier to read.

As for the thread, I cannot say why it was removed as I did not remove it but what I can tell you is that glg did see the topic so if he wants to go forward with it I'm sure he'll reach out to the guy. I suspect there may be copyright issues.

I thought the board used phpBB 2 at one time, which I didn't think had prosilver. Yes, I find the lighter skins much easier to read. You don't see many web sites with dark backgrounds these days. I sometimes get a kick out of the member who posts using yellow text, probably not realizing that many people can't read it. A skin with a purple and gold color theme on a white background would be ideal, IMO.

It wasn't called prosilver but it had a similar color palate.

Are you thinking of subsilver? There are now three skins installed here. I think prosilver is simply the default skin for phpBB 3. prosilver is a much more modern look, but they made the godawful (IMO) choice of displaying user information on the right hand side.

Could be, I don't recall the exact name. All I know is there was no choice of skins before like there is now

It was me who made the thread suggesting that this site needs a makeover. I don't know what happened to the thread. I guess they didn't like it. But yeah I think the header could be remodeled. Right now it looks like as if the site hasn't been touched since 2008.

Eli was referring to someone else in this case, but you are right about the 2008 thing. :P

No I remember that thread exactly. I said that the new uniforms be on here and not the old uniform you see Peterson in, in the top two corners. I made that thread months ago. Not to long after the thread about embedding youtube videos. Another feature we would have lacked with my acknowledgment. I remember one of the mods commented on it I think S197. I rarely on this subtopic part of the forum but I see the thread is deleted.

There was another guy...with another thread. He actually designed a few new backgrounds and asked for opinions.

Now, just trust a person...lol

Well I can't speak for anyone else ... but I personally don't have access to the website account/web files to be able to make those changes. I'm but a lowly moderator :D

You'll probably have more say than we do when it comes to suggestion site upgrades. If the site admin trusts you enough to give you moderator authority over the users on this site, then I'm sure he will consider any upgrades/improvements you suggest. lol

How did you guys become mods in the first place? Are you guys like personal friends who were giving the position on the spot or just long time members who were assumed the position.

That's true ... but I don't use the black/purple layout and I'm perfectly happy with the pro-Silver layout (I prefer simple and quick loading when using a message board, personally).

A couple years ago the forum changed hands and some of the moderators retired. I had been a member for a couple of years at that point and they asked for volunteers. I have a background in IT (been in the field for 13 years, have an MSMIT, and am currently working as a database administrator) so I'm guessing my background and time with the board is why I became one.

It could have also just been I was one of the only people to volunteer ... hard sayin' lol
